Job Description

The Senior Cloud Engineer plays a critical role in designing, implementing, and supporting cloud infrastructure that empowers K-12 schools with secure, scalable, and innovative technology solutions. This position focuses on Microsoft Azure platforms, including virtual machines, networking, storage, and AI services, to ensure reliable operations and to advance the organization's digital transformation initiatives. The Senior Cloud Engineer will provide technical leadership, mentor junior staff, and collaborate across IT, data, and academic teams to support both daily operations and strategic projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design, deploy, and manage the company's Azure cloud infrastructure, with an emphasis on virtual machines, networking, storage, and identity services.

• Support the company's AI initiatives, including Azure Cognitive Services, Machine Learning, and AI-driven integrations to enhance student and staff experiences.

• Administer and support Okta Identity and Access Management (IAM) integrations with Azure AD and other applications.

• Monitor, maintain, and optimize system performance, reliability, and cost efficiency across CSUSA’s Azure environments.

• Implement and manage security controls, compliance standards, and data governance policies in alignment with K-12 regulations and best practices.

• Provide Tier-3 escalation support for cloud infrastructure incidents and service requests.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (data engineering, networking, academic technology) to ensure alignment of cloud solutions with school operations.

• Develop and maintain documentation, runbooks, and knowledge transfer resources for the organization's cloud systems and processes.

• Lead cloud migration projects, upgrades, and modernization efforts.

• Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and support staff.

• Stay current with emerging Azure technologies, AI capabilities, and industry trends to proactively recommend improvements for the organization.

MAY PERFORM OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

1. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Azure foundations, including VMs, networking, storage, identity, and security.

2. Hands-on experience with Azure AI services (e.g., Cognitive Services, OpenAI integrations, Azure ML).

3. Strong hands-on experience with Okta Identity Cloud, including SSO, MFA, lifecycle management, and integrations with Azure AD.

4. Strong understanding of cloud governance, security frameworks, and compliance requirements for K-12 environments (e.g., FERPA, COPPA).

5. Proficiency with PowerShell, CLI, or other automation/scripting tools for infrastructure management.

6. Experience with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Azure Monitor, Log Analytics).

7. Familiarity with hybrid cloud and on-premises integrations (e.g., Active Directory, VPNs, firewalls).

8. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage complex technical issues.

9. Excellent communication skills to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Ability to lead projects and provide mentorship within a team environment.

Pay Rate: $60-70/hr

Skills and Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.

• 5+ years of experience in cloud engineering, with at least 3+ years focused on Microsoft Azure.

• Demonstrated experience managing Azure VMs, networking, storage, and security.

• 2+ years of experience administering Okta Identity and Access Management solutions.

• Experience supporting AI initiatives and deploying AI-driven solutions.

Azure certifications (e.g., Azure Administrator Associate, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or Azure AI Engineer Associate) · Okta certifications (e.g., Okta Certified Administrator or Okta Certified Consultant) are a plus.

Experience in education technology or K-12 school environments is a plus.
