Description
Overview
Adult English Language and Literacy (AELL) is the direct service provider of ESOL and adult literacy instruction for The New York Public Library (NYPL). Professional teachers facilitate free instruction to adult patrons in reading, writing, speaking and listening from a 0 to 8th grade level in both in-person and online classes. Instruction is offered in three, 10-week cycles and one, 4-week summer cycle.
Must be able to work:
_Wakefield Library (Bronx): Mondays and Wednesdays from 10am-12pm_
Responsibilities
+ Teach ESOL classes that promote English language proficiency and digital literacy for students assessed at NRS levels 1-6
+ Follow the prescribed curriculum in a communicative language teaching environment during class-time
+ Submit lesson plans that demonstrate communicative language teaching in alignment with the prescribed curriculum
+ Instruct adult ESOL students in classes and learning experiences, which will lead to the achievement of their educational and personal goals
+ Assist in the managed enrollment process to recruit students and maintain student records
+ Participate in prescribed professional development pertaining to adult basic education and Library strategic priorities
Required Education, Experience & Skills
Required Education & Certifications
+ Bachelor’s degree required
Required Experience
+ At least 1 year of experience teaching adults in both in-person and online settings
+ Experience creating lesson plans using a backward design approach
+ Experience administering standardized assessments
Required Skills
+ Strong verbal and written communication skills
+ Ability to work well both independently and collaboratively
+ Ability to meet deadlines for administrative tasks
+ Strong computer skills including using Microsoft Office, Google Suite and Zoom
+ Knowledge of technology-assisted learning, instructional software, video, audio and distance learning

Schedule
+ 5 hours per week
