Lead, Medical Accountability and Excellence
The Lead, Medical Accountability and Excellence (MAE) is a cross-portfolio leader accountable for supporting Field Medical Affairs credibility, expertise, execution, performance, & excellence through enduring matrix leadership responsibilities across the Field Medical and Medical Science Liaison (MSL) role functions and activities.
The MAE Lead is part of a collaborative matrix team which partners across Therapeutic Area MSL teams, Field Medical Excellence team, Customer Engagement, Products & Portfolio, and other USMA and Commercial stakeholders to provide information, leadership, and guidance to MSLs and other Field Medical Affairs team members driving both Medical Affairs and Customer Squad strategy, goals, objectives, and correlating activities.
The MAE Lead supports and facilitates overarching consistent execution of Field Medical Affairs activities and tactics by the MSLs in order to meet local Customer Squad goals. The MAE Lead provides leadership and insight towards relevant USMA and Field Medical customer engagement components (data requirements and evaluation, Field Medical impact measurement, resource needs, Field Medical insights, MedCRM requirements, etc.)
The MAE Lead also develops strong strategic collaborative partnerships with internal stakeholders including Medical Affairs, Commercial, Market Access and Customer Engagement teams to elevate and maximize the execution, impact, partnership, and performance of the Franchise Field Medical team.
The role embodies the key elements of being an outstanding leader to the holistic Field Medical team - visionary, architect, coach, and catalyst. The employee demonstrates a One Team approach with a mindset of shared accountability within the team and Field Medical organization
This position will ideally be located out of Whippany, NJ. Relocation will be available for the selected Candidate, if needed.
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of this role, Lead, Medical Accountability and Excellence (MAE), are to:
Leadership:
+ Ensure seamless Franchise agnostic onboarding and deployment of Field Medical new hires in partnership with key stakeholders including but not limited to Field Medical Senior Directors, Field Medical Excellence Team, & Pharma Operations;
+ Execute or coordinate cross-TA activities for all MSLs (onboarding, non-TA specific training, skill development, MSL role responsibilities, territory management, cross-functional collaboration, application of Key Tasks: SOPs, etc.) in order to meet Medical Affairs or Customer Squad responsibilities;
+ Responsible and accountable for coordinating and executing Field Medical role / responsibility guidance, support, and consistency across entire Field Medical organization;
+ Responsible for contributing to high performing Field Medical team members in line with Bayer’s performance culture framework and individual role responsibilities;
+ Responsible for leading and driving transformation and change management within Field Medical team regarding Customer Squad organization, HCP and stakeholder engagement models, Field Medical roles and responsibilities, strategic partnerships, and new ways of working Accountable for ensuring consistency of processes, standards, tools, and communication methods with strategic and functional alignment to larger Medical Affairs or Area Business Unit direction and guidance;
+ Provides input and guidance to focused 90 day priorities for our overarching Field Medical organization and COE organization Responsible for cross-regional sharing of best practices and field insights to other Customer Squads and regions.
Coaching & Development:
+ Lead optimization and elevation of MSL skillset development both during field onboarding and deployment and enduring. In collaboration with Field Medical Senior Directors and Head Field Medical Excellence, accountable to ensuring Field Medical organization receives appropriate training, coaching, feedback, and support to achieve their full potential;
+ Demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning and personal growth and development Maintain high level of cross-Therapeutic Area technical and scientific expertise and broad knowledge of clinical and business issues impacting the Bayer business environment and landscape;
+ Provide coaching and feedback regarding Field Medical employee performance as needed through field visits (in person or virtual) with communication and feedback to Field Medical Senior Director and Area Business Manager;
+ Act as MSL individualized skillset coach or mentor as appropriate;
+ Identification of rising MSL talent for advancement to roles of increasing leadership.
Collaboration / Strategic Partnerships:
+ Collaboration and strategic partnership with Field Medical Leadership team, Center of Excellence team, Director MSL Operations & Excellence, Head Medical Center of Excellence, Customer Engagement organization, and other stakeholders to support the goals of holistic Field Medical Affairs organization and to drive consistency, alignment, standardization, efficiency, prioritization of resources, strategic collaboration, and impact within and across teams In collaboration with Therapeutic Area Field Trainer roles, Learning & Development, Senior Director Field Medical, and other relevant stakeholders coordinate Field Medical employee onboarding, training, certification, and enduring learning and development opportunities so they can achieve their full potential in the field;
+ Facilitate cross-TA field shadowing, collaboration, and other learning opportunities as applicable to maximize Field Medical employee knowledge base;
+ In partnership with L&D team, ensure that the Franchise Field Medical team is fully compliant in the documentation and timing of all training programs and certifications;
+ Coach MSLs on implementing successful customer and educational engagement strategies during both during onboarding and enduring timeframes;
+ Foster innovation by cultivating collaboration across Franchise Field Medical teams and cross-functional colleagues;
+ The MAE Lead contributes to and leads internal teams and projects as applicable including but not limited to those which are cross-Field Medical team, cross-Therapeutic Area, cross-US Pharma, or Globally driven. Stakeholders include but not limited to Center of Excellence team, Field Medical Senior Directors, Therapeutic Area VPs, Learning & Development, Customer Engagement team, Product and Portfolio team.
New Ways of Working (Data collection / Analysis / Interpretation):
+ Responsible for developing strategic perspective and strong understanding of Bayer’s Franchise and Medical strategies, healthcare landscape (includes healthcare systems, competition, healthcare regulations etc.) so as to anticipate business and customer/stakeholder needs and shape Field Medical support, training, execution, and evolution accordingly;
+ Drive accountability of Field Medical team to strategically leverage and implement new ways of working to meet HCP and Area Business Unit needs including platforms, systems, & subsequent capabilities. Train, mentor, and empower Field Medical team to expand usage of new ways of working;
+ Leverage evolving country and Global platforms and systems to ensure data driven approach to customer engagement and Area Business Unit priorities by Field Medical organization;
+ Provides input towards key Field Medical strategy and requirements for system / platform needs, data requirements, data analysis, etc. (i.e. MedCRM, US Dashboards, Medical insights, etc.)
WHO YOU ARE
Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
Required Qualifications:
+ Advanced degree in science-related field (PharmD, PhD, MD/DO, MSN, PA/NP);
+ Demonstrated leadership ability (formal or informal);
+ Clear strategic, tactical, and visionary capabilities with the ability to establish, articulate, and pull through vision for Field Medical team;
+ Demonstrated excellent project management ability. Highly organized with thorough attention to detail ensuring timely follow-through and closure;
+ Demonstrated business acumen / commercial knowledge with understanding on pharma customer segments and market trends;
+ Ability to work in a team environment and build productive work relationships both internally and externally required;
+ Demonstrated excellent problem resolution skills, presentation skills, oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and team building skills are required;
+ Demonstrated expertise in communicating scientific information;
+ Conveys a strong and deep knowledge of FDA regulations regarding drug promotion, the dissemination of medical and product information is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Minimum of 8 years of MSL and/or field medical management experience;
+ Minimum of 8 years experience within a pharmaceutical or medical device company in medical affairs, clinical development, marketing, or sales;
+ Experience across Therapeutic Areas or Pharma Divisions strongly preferred.
Employees can expect to be paid a salary of between $182,600 to $273,900. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc.. This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
