Stanford Libraries is seeking a full-time Livermore Facility Driver to join the Stanford Auxiliary Library. About the Position:
The Livermore Facility Driver transports materials between campus and the Stanford University Library’s high-density, high-efficiency, preservation storage facility located in Livermore, California (SAL3). This facility is located fifty miles from the Stanford University campus. The Facility Driver also performs process support tasks and does minor equipment and fixture repairs. This series of job classifications encompasses positions with the primary duty of delivering supplies, equipment or other items through the operation of a motor vehicle or by walking an assigned route. Operating procedures are carefully detailed so that daily assignments may be accomplished with only general instructions and review. There are three levels in the series, Deliverer I and II and Deliverer I Lead. They are differentiated on the basis of the work performed.
Core Duties*:
Safe transport of Library materials and rare archival items between various branch libraries on campus and off campus sites including Page Mill, Newark and soon, the Redwood City campus and SAL3 using established guidelines for careful handling.
+ Loads, packs and secures carts and bins into truck efficiently so that items are not damaged during transport.
+ Drives in a safe manner to insure truck, contents, and driver arrive at destinations safely.
+ Drives in courteous manner as an on-the-road representative of Stanford University.
+ Delivers and picks up paged library items at designated branches for campus distribution.
+ Delivers and picks up archival items directly to and from designated personnel at Special Collections, Hoover, and Archive of Recorded Sound libraries.
+ Locks and alarms truck when leaving it unattended.
+ Stays with the truck at all times when it contains Special Collections, Hoover, and Archive of Recorded Sound items.
+ Coordinates with campus contacts transfer logistics and adjustments to up/delivery times.
+ Notify supervisor if on-site pick-ups did not match plan; keeping track of all pick-ups/deliveries.
+ Line up next-day morning deliveries at SAL3 loading dock each afternoon.
+ Manages supply of empty carts to ensure availability.
+ Delivers processing supplies to campus partners.
+ Hand transports campus mail to and from campus box in Access Services to SAL3.
+ Load and unload materials by use of hand truck, pallet jack, dolly or forklift
Conduct truck safety inspections and reports issues.
+ Monitor gas level daily; fills gas tank on campus as needed (two to three times per week).
+ Regularly checks all fluid levels and tops off as needed. Checks and inspects tires, fills as needed.
+ Purchases and maintains truck supplies.
+ Reports any operational problems or abnormalities to supervisor and/or campus mailroom supervisor.
+ Switches out trucks on campus for scheduled service/maintenance work needed on the truck. This requires unloading/loading the entire truck contents. May drive truck to repair shop or drive to pick up rental truck.
Prepares items for processing at SAL3 facility
• Assembles and labels cardboard book storage trays.
• Unloads carts.
• Vacuums newly received books to remove dust.
• Scans book bar codes to create a duplicate bar code for placement onto the front, upper left cover.
• Sorts newly received items by size, using a tool and carefully places them into cardboard trays. Accurately counts and records the number of items in each tray.
• May assist in placing accessioned trays on shelves per plan using the forklift or at floor level.
• May assist in picking and packing retrievals from the module shelves using the forklift or at floor level, and packs them for campus and/or courier delivery.
Provides operational support
• Performs minor repairs on furniture and facility fixtures.
• Performs preventative maintenance and minor repairs on SAL3s fleet of 160 carts.
• Additional responsibilities and projects as assigned by SAL3 Operations Manager and Assistant Manager.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience:
• High School diploma or equivalent and one-year relevant work experience or combination of a combination of equivalent education and work experience. Ability to obtain and maintain a California Non-commercial Class C Driver’s license.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to obtain and maintain a California Non-commercial Class C Driver’s license.
• Must have basic computer skills.
• Must be able to use electronic and mobile devices.
• Ability to use hand truck, pallet-jack and binding machines.
• Ability to read, write and speak English effectively.
• Special driver’s license endorsements appropriate to the job, e.g. hazardous materials certification.
• Ability to operate large delivery van, truck, pickup and forklift.
• Ability to conduct safety inspections of large delivery van, truck, pickup and forklift.
• May require knowledge of Bay Area highways and routes and the ability to read maps.
• May require ability to deal with tight time constraints including traffic problems.
• Ability to work independently and solve problems such as relocation of designated delivery sites.
• Ability to package materials according to established procedures.
• Ability to move heavy book trucks with materials weighing 50 pounds or more.
• Ability to qualify for and maintain noncommercial Class driver’s license with special endorsements as needed.
• Working knowledge of office software and email applications and experience in a PC environment.
Physical Requirements:
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a California Non-commercial Class C Driver’s license and a California Non-Commercial Class 2 Driver’s License.
+ Must be able to lift boxes, mail bags, packages and tubs weighing 60 pounds, occasionally up to 100 pounds.
+ Ability to become certified in the proper use of an automated forklift (order picker).
+ Frequently perform seated work and drive vehicle.
+ Occasionally stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, reach above shoulders, and grasp lightly and forcefully.

Working Conditions:
• Constantly exposed to hot and cold temperature extremes and inclement weather.
• Required to wear appropriate uniform.
• May be required to work overtime, evenings, and weekends, including Holidays, sometimes in inclement weather conditions.
• Required to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

The expected pay range for this position is $32.54 to $39.32 per hour.
