    Job Summary

    There is an open postdoctoral position at the University of Michigan Medical School, Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation to work with Dr. EmilyBriceno.

     

    Primary Project (NIH/NIA RF1AG088009): Mild Cognitive Impairment and Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias: Cross-national longitudinal prognosis and risk factors

    Responsibilities*

    The postdoctoral scientist will conduct research for an NIH-funded project to among culturally, linguistically, and educationally varied older adults, taking a multidisciplinary approach to understanding cognitive aging and Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) across different national contexts.

     

    The selected candidate will work on projects focused on the measurement of cognitive function and cognitive impairment (i.e., mild cognitive impairment and dementia) across the US, Mexico, and India. Projects may include psychometric analyses of measurement equivalence across contexts, studying the validity of cognitive test scores and cognitive impairment classifications across contexts, and substantive research questions regarding the unique and shared sociodemographic, lifestyle, health, and biological risk factors associated with mild cognitive impairment and dementia across contexts. Research projects will take place in close collaboration with faculty mentors. This position is in collaboration with Dr. Miguel Arce Renteria at Columbia University. Opportunities for co-mentoring with Drs.Bricenoand Arce will be available.

     

    The fellow will lead and support the analyses of existing longitudinal data in order to begin to develop an independent line of research. The fellow will be exposed to various training opportunities related to the investigation of cognitive aging among linguistically and socioculturally diverse older adults. Duties include data management and analysis, research presentations at national and international conferences, publishing peer-reviewed manuscripts, participating in seminars and work groups, and collaborating on research grant applications. The fellow will be expected to apply modern data analytic approaches, write manuscripts and grant proposals, and participate in a productive research team.

    Required Qualifications*

    + PhD in a related science area such as epidemiology, biostatistics, neuroscience, cognitive science, psychology, neuropsychology, neurology, data science, biomedical engineering, or a related discipline

    + Less than five years' experience post-doctorate

    + A demonstrated record of individual initiative in research

    + Strong analytic skills

    + Potential to become an independent academic researcher within two to three years

    Desired Qualifications*

    + Experience working with international datasets and/or international research teams

    + Strong academic writing skills

    + Interest in developing an independent line of research in cognitive aging

    + Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-based environment.

    Additional Information

    **Proposed Start:** Flexible start date. Winter 2025 or earlier preferred.

    Background Screening
