    Responsibilities*

    BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

    Evaluate, interpret, plan and implement specific treatment programs for both individuals and groups of patients to restore ADL and maximize performance. To assist in coordinating and conducting clinical programs for occupational therapy students.

    CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    + Completes evaluations of assigned patients and interprets evaluation results in accordance with the established standards of care and practice.

    + Develops focused individually designed treatment plans based on the patient's functional goals and appropriate established standards of care and practice.

    + Utilizes independent clinical decision making to progress patients and modifies treatment depending on the patient's need and medical and medical/psychological status.

    + Completes all documentation of patient care services per department standards.

    + Assist in developing and conducting research and study projects related to patient treatment.

    + Instructs patients and families in home treatment programs.

    + Assist in the establishment or modification of unit rules and procedures.

    + Assist in the education, supervision and motivation of students and assistants.

    + May assist in the preparation of assigned sections of the annual unit budget.

    + Process patient care orders using the electronic ordering system may be required in certain areas.

    Required Qualifications*

    + If licensed before 1/1/2007: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy.

    + If licensed on or after 1/1/2007: Master's or Doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy.

    + Satisfactory completion of an internship program.

    + Current Michigan Registration in Occupational Therapy and NBCOT membership.

    + This classification requires Primary Source Verification.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & OCCUPATIONAL HAZARDS

    This position requires extensive standing/walking, as well as lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring of patients.

     

    1. Ability to travel from point A to point B throughout the workday as assigned.

    2. The employee will be able to perform the assigned duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodations: ability to work in a sedentary position for long periods of time, ability to communicate/ exchange information, fine motor coordination/dexterity necessary for keyboarding or typing, and may require reaching, bending, twisting, stooping, moving about, lifting of up to 10 pounds, etc., with or without the use of assistive/adaptivedevices.

    3. Staff members may have routine exposure to all chemical inventory, inclusive of hazardous materials, housed at all work sites for Home Care Services, including but not limited to the office, hospital, clinics, vehicles and warehouse. Chemical inventory reference materials are available to all staff in the form of hard copy and online Material Safety Data Sheets.

    4. Staff may carry out assignments in patients' homes, hospitals, clinics and HCS offices. Staff may drive personal or University owned vehicle and walk on uneven surfaces to these various work site locations in all weather conditions on a regular basis.

    5.     Union Affiliation

     

    This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.

     

    Background Screening

     

    Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third-party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.

     

    In addition to the screenings indicated above under Michigan law, a criminal history check including fingerprinting is required as a condition of transfer or employment for this position.
