Position Overview
UTMB Health is seeking skilled and motivated **Radiation Therapists** and **Senior Radiation Therapists** to join our Radiation Oncology Department in Galveston, Texas.
Candidates will be considered for either the Radiation Therapist or Senior Radiation Therapist position based on their qualifications and years of experience.
These roles provide highly technical skills in the accurate delivery of radiation therapy treatments, ensuring the safe and precise administration of therapeutic doses as prescribed by radiation oncologists.
Job Responsibilities
+ Accurately and efficiently operate treatment machines and CT simulators to deliver prescribed treatment doses.
+ Read, interpret, and implement complex treatment plans using physician prescriptions and computerized plans.
+ Operate and manipulate the mechanical motions of radiation-emitting treatment machines, simulators, and CT scanners.
+ Ensure strict adherence to all radiation safety standards to protect patients and personnel.
+ Maintain accurate written and computerized treatment records and daily charge documentation.
+ Prepare and educate patients for radiation therapy; monitor patients throughout the treatment process.
+ Communicate clearly and effectively with patients, families, and all members of the healthcare team.
+ Assess treatment machine operations and assist in quality assurance, calibration, and system accuracy checks.
+ Assist in training and evaluating student therapists.
+ Adhere to all departmental quality control policies, procedures, and safety standards.
Additional Responsibilities for Senior Radiation Therapist:
+ Provide mentoring, training, and working oversight for staff therapists as directed by leadership.
+ Coordinate patient scheduling and manage workflow to ensure efficiency and accuracy.
+ Participate in the development of departmental policies, procedures, and quality assurance initiatives.
+ Represent the therapy team in meetings as needed and communicate updates effectively.
+ Participate in interviewing and onboarding new therapy staff.
Minimum Qualifications
Radiation Therapist:
+ Associate’s degree or graduate of an AMA-accredited program in Radiation Therapy Technology.
+ Certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiation Therapy.
+ Licensed by the Texas Medical Board in Medical Radiologic Technology.
+ BLS Certification through the American Heart Association.
Senior Radiation Therapist (in addition to the above):
+ Minimum five (5) years of progressive experience as a staff radiation therapist.
Work Schedule
+ Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
+ Occasional additional hours as needed.
+ Work Location: Galveston, Texas
