The Role at a Glance
The Instructional Designer I will join a team of curriculum experts developing online, instructor-led online, and face-to-face courses at the Infrastructure Training and Safety Institute at the Texas A&M University RELLIS Campus. Maintains a suite of courses designed for electric power, code enforcement, environment, health and safety, transportation, heavy equipment, unmanned aircraft systems, water and wastewater, as well as critical infrastructure personnel.
As an Instructional Designer I, you will be a part of our world-class training efforts by executing an established curriculum development process that includes working with Subject Matter Experts (SME) and design team members to identify training needs, prepare learning objectives, and define and sequence course content for classroom and online learning. You will utilize knowledge of adult education theory, various learning modes, and effective information design principles to maximize learner success and ensure overall effectiveness of the training programs. You will also work with SMEs to review and update existing programs to adapt courses to changing industry needs and objectives.
The Instructional Designer I will work with curriculum leadership to establish project requirements, lead development meetings, and track and report project progress while working within the established budget and timeline limitations.
This position will report to the Curriculum Coordinator. The essential job duties are outlined below.
Curriculum Design, Development, and Deployment—80%:
+ Design and develop course materials for both the student and the instructor.
+ Follow established development processes and guidelines.
+ Facilitate working meetings assigned to phased curriculum development efforts.
+ Support the creation of all course objectives as well as course activities and assessment elements.
+ Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and originality of technical documentation.
+ Create and revise course presentation slides and instructional visual aids necessary to maintain alignment with course goals and objectives.
+ Conduct focused technical reviews of all curriculum materials received for assignment for proper usage of terminology, style, direction, content, grammar, diction, punctuation, and clarity; recommend revisions or changes in scope, format, and content to ensure standardization.
+ Format, edit, prepare, and submit training manuals and other associated training materials for review by the development team.
+ Prepare documents for professional printing or publishing through other means as specified by the curriculum manager.
Curriculum Design Team Lead—15%:
+ Promote collaboration, partnerships, and relationships among design team.
+ Work with subject matter experts, instructors, and other design team members to ensure the accuracy and validity of the training design and methodology.
+ Ensure alignment exists between the curriculum, testing, and applicable standards.
Instructional Design Projects Research and Structure—5%:
+ Establish project scope, timeline, goals and objectives.
+ Research available resources, permissions and curriculum.
+ Monitor project progress and deliver requested or required reports.
Qualifications of the Role
+ Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
+ No experience required with a bachelor’s degree in an applicable field.
+ Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
Equivalency: will consider an associate’s degree with two years of experience in training, curriculum development, and adult learning principles or a high school diploma or GED with four years of experience in training, curriculum development, and adult learning principles.
