Job Description
Purpose:
The Program Specialist I supports the planning and delivery of departmental programs and events under the general supervision of the department’s Administrator. This position coordinates event logistics communication with faculty, staff, students, and internal/external partners, and ensures events run smoothly and meet departmental standards. The position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in delivering meaningful and successful events.
Responsibilities:
Direct oversight or involvement in annual, semesterly, monthly, weekly, or ad hoc events such as (not comprehensive listing):
Signature Department Events
+ Plans and coordinates major departmental events such as the Spring Banquet (~500 guests, including Distinguished Former Student, donors, and student awardees), CS Day, and standard Honors events.
+ Oversee event logistics, award processes, committee coordination, communications, and on-site implementation.
Faculty, Staff, and Student Engagement
+ Coordinates recurring activities such as weekly faculty lunches, monthly faculty and staff meetings, and other departmental gatherings.
+ Provides leadership for internal community-building events (e.g., Thanksgiving Potluck, Holiday Lunch, Staff Retreat, Faculty Retreat, DoNut Stress).
Guest and Visitor Programs
+ Works with Colloquium Committee to host distinguished lecturers, including travel, itineraries, receptions, and related logistics.
+ Assists with faculty candidate visits, ensuring smooth coordination of schedules and departmental hospitality.
Special Projects and Recognition
+ Coordinates recognition efforts including retirements, graduations, and special visitor acknowledgements.
+ Serves as point of contact for college and university event teams, ensuring alignment with broader initiatives.
Collaboration and Support
+ Partners with the Communications Specialist to promote events and encourage participation.
+ Provides general program support as assigned; may serve as lead or assistant to additional events as needed.

+ Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
+ No prior experience required.
