What We Want
The Director of Social Media leads Texas A&M University’s enterprise-wide social media operations to elevate the university’s online presence, strengthen its global reputation, and drive engagement with key audiences. This role oversees all social media channels, staff, and governance frameworks, ensuring that storytelling, community management, and reputation management align with institutional goals. The Director manages team processes and logistics, communicates regularly with leadership, and collaborates closely with the broader creative and marketing teams to ensure alignment and excellence across initiatives.

Responsibilities
Strategic Implementation and Collaboration:
+ Partner with the broader Marketing and Communications team, university stakeholders, and agency partners to implement creative and strategic recommendations across all social media platforms.
+ Translate established strategies into actionable social media plans that align with institutional goals, brand standards, and campaign objectives.
+ Oversee the coordination and rollout of paid, organic, and influencer campaigns, ensuring consistency, quality, and impact across channels.
+ Monitor and report performance metrics to track campaign effectiveness and provide actionable insights to leadership.
+ Stay informed on emerging platforms, technologies, and digital trends to support continuous improvement in social media operations and content execution.
+ Collaborate with Marketing, Communications, and Brand Strategy teams to ensure social media integrates seamlessly with larger campaigns and university priorities.
+ Build and maintain strong relationships with campus communicators, colleges, departments, and system partners to coordinate efforts and share best practices.
+ Serve as the central liaison for external agencies, platform representatives, and technology vendors supporting social media initiatives.
Operations, Governance, and Channel Management:
+ Oversee the daily operations and workflows of the social media team, ensuring efficient processes, clear communication, and on-time delivery of content.
+ Manage governance across the university’s social media ecosystem, providing training, guidance, and quality control for decentralized accounts.
+ Direct the coordination, scheduling, and publication of content across institutional channels, maintaining brand consistency, accessibility, and tone.
+ Lead reporting and performance analysis for all channels, providing data-driven insights to senior leadership.
+ Oversee social listening and monitoring to identify trends, opportunities, and potential issues, guiding response strategies in collaboration with Public Relations and Issues Management teams.
Team Leadership and Development:
+ Lead and mentor a team of social media professionals, including full-time staff, student employees, and interns.
+ Define priorities, assign responsibilities, and establish accountability systems to ensure quality and consistency across all outputs.
+ Promote a collaborative, creative, and inclusive team environment that values innovation, transparency, and continuous improvement.
+ Partner with leadership and Human Resources to identify growth opportunities and align team capacity with evolving institutional needs.
Content Production and Visual Standards:
+ Oversee video, photography, and graphic content shoots to ensure alignment with university brand and campaign goals.
+ Review and approve creative assets for tone, accuracy, and accessibility prior to publication.
+ Stay current on visual trends, platform specifications, and social media best practices to guide creative direction.
+ Collaborate with creative partners and production teams to continually elevate the quality, relevance, and visual consistency of social content.
Qualifications
Required Education & Experience:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
+ Ten years of progressively responsible experience in social media management, digital communications, or marketing; including:
+ Three years in a supervisory capacity.
+ Expertise in social media analytics, paid campaign management, and social listening platforms (e.g., Sprout Social).
+ Proven experience executing cross-channel marketing or brand campaigns.
+ Experience managing social media for a large, complex organization.
+ Experience leading cross-functional teams or managing agency partnerships to deliver high-impact digital campaigns.
•Preferred Qualifications:
+ Familiarity with reputation and crisis management in digital environments.
+ Experience integrating social media operations with broader marketing automation, CRM, or digital advertising systems.
+ Knowledge of higher education communications and an understanding of university culture, governance, and audiences.
+ Strong understanding of digital accessibility, inclusive design, and ADA compliance in social media and multimedia content.
+ Advanced knowledge of content performance analytics, SEO, and paid media optimization.
+ Master’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
+ Deep understanding of social media management, content production, and community engagement across major and emerging platforms (e.g., YouTube, TikTok, X, Instagram, LinkedIn).
+ Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt tone and style for diverse audiences.
+ Strong leadership, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
+ Ability to analyze data, interpret insights, and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
+ Commitment to accessibility, inclusion, and ethical digital communication.
+ Ability to multitask, manage complex projects, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
