    Job Title: Category Manager, Fuel

     

    Department: Purchasing

    General Function

     

    This Executive Staff position procures fuel product for Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh Stations and Distribution Centers. Efficiency finding the best quality/price to keep the stations full enough and overseeing the fuel department team.

    Accountable and Reports to: Vice President, Procurement

     

    Positions that Report to you: Fuel Purchasing Specialist and Assistant and Dispatcher

     

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities

     

    + Monitors/orders fuel daily for stores and subsidiaries.

    + Performs daily setup and store notification of fuel costs.

    + Notify the daily carriers of the suppliers that are to be used.

    + Delegating and training team members.

    + Audits invoices to vendors and stores.

    + Creates weekly and monthly fuel buying and sales reports.

    + Traces late shipments and follows up with carrier.

    + Verifies potential tank out-of-stocks and overfills.

    + Sources fuel for most favorable price and supply.

    + Verifies disputed invoices for repayment.

    + Prepare for backup options for fuel supply and for hauling the fuel.

    + Answers telephone inquiries from stores, suppliers and carriers right away.

    + Works with states/fuel vendors on fuel tax issues/updates/audits.

    + Internal audits each day, monthly, quarterly and yearly.

    + Knowledge to be the expert in Fuels, fuel software, fuel delivery process, email, state fuel taxes, seasonal changes and communications.

    + Processes special orders for stores and arranges shipment of product.

    + Communicate with Compliance Company on special needs for fuel tank testing, etc.

    + Communicate with service company to ensure safe fuel deliveries if work is needed.

    + Freight invoices from carriers – audits & verifies payments.

    + Work may include rotating coverage or backup coverage on weekends/holidays.

    + Schedule team members to cover the fuel department needs.

    + Reports to work when scheduled and on time.

    + Flexibility to work earlier and/or later if necessary.

    + Excellent interpersonal skills: ability to relate to and interact with other people in a friendly, professional manner

    + Ability to identify problems, develop and execute solutions

    + Ability to interact with basic computer systems, including word processing, spreadsheet and email applications, as well as job-specific programs

     

    Education and Experience

     

    + High school diploma or equivalent required.

    + 4-year degree preferred.

    + 3-5 years previous related work experience.

    Physical Requirements

    + Visual requirements include ability to see detail at near range with or without correction.

    + Must be physically able to perform sedentary work: occasionally lifting or carrying objects of no more than 10 pounds, and occasionally standing or walking, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping, feeling talking, hearing and repetitive motions.

     

    Working Conditions

     

    The duties of this position are performed in a general office setting. There is frequent pressure to meet deadlines and handle multiple projects in a day.

     

    Equipment Used to Perform Job

     

    Standard tools and equipment used to test, troubleshoot and train on forecasting software.

     

    Calculator, copier, telephone, printer and PC with Microsoft Office programs.
