About the Position:
We’re looking for an entry-level Research Analyst to join our analytics team at the Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses. Our work supports all areas of the Division — from Licensing and Investigations to Customer Experience, Finance, and other operational areas— by transforming raw data into clear, actionable insights.
In this role, you’ll create reports and dashboards, run SQL queries to answer ad hoc questions, and help deliver written analyses on key topics like licensing activity, fees, and customer interactions. Day to day, you’ll prepare and validate data, build recurring reports that help teams operate efficiently, and contribute to dashboard or research projects that present insights in interactive, meaningful ways.
You’ll collaborate with senior staff to understand business needs, explore data with curiosity, and uncover the story behind the numbers. Success in this role comes from being proactive, detail-oriented, and eager to learn—balancing precision in analysis with an openness to solving new and unfamiliar problems.
Example of Duties:
Research Development
+ Collects, prepares, and validates data using established procedures and tools
+ Develops and maintains basic data collection or tracking tools as needed
+ Identifies and corrects data quality issues using established methods
+ Assists in improving data processes and reporting workflows
Data Analysis & Reporting
+ Compiles and edits data for recurring reports that support licensing, investigations, and other programs
+ Performs preliminary analysis using a variety of analytical tools and methods, applying basic statistical and data concepts as appropriate
+ Writes SQL queries to respond to ad hoc data requests and information needs
+ Develops and updates dashboards or visualizations to present findings
+ Drafts written summaries or findings for management and program staff
Minimum Qualifications
Good knowledge of:
+ Research methods and Principles of statistics
Experience:
+ Writing analytical (research) reports or materials and using statistical software or spreadsheet software to perform statistical analysis
Preferred Qualifications
+ Experience using Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
+ Experience using Tableau, SQL, and Python
+ Considerable experience using statistical software to perform statistical analysis, gained by:
At least two (2) years of professional work experience performing statistical analysis, interpreting and communicating results; OR
A relevant degree focused on compiling and analyzing data and drawing conclusions.
