CORE JOB SUMMARYThe Payroll Analyst 1 provides timely and accurate payroll processing by reviewing and ensuring accuracy of payroll calculations. This role performs tasks to establish and maintain employee payroll records including updates to pay, deduction, benefits and tax withholding records for students, staff, faculty and administrators. Key responsibilities include the review and analysis of system-generated reports during the preliminary and post payroll process, customer service support for all pay related issues of basic complexity and timekeeping system and clock troubleshooting.CORE JOB FUNCTIONS1. Assists with bi-weekly and monthly payroll processing responsibilities during the pre and post process by reviewing assigned duties and taking corrective action as needed.2. Reviews and audits payroll and system-generated reports/registers to ensure accuracy, reasonableness and appropriateness of deductions calculated for each pay cycle.3. Reviews Kronos timekeeping system timecards for approvals and performs approval sign off functions prior to Kronos timekeeping system extract.4. Completes Kronos timekeeping system extract, loads extract information to Workday payroll system, reviews and resolves discrepancies or errors, if any, for each pay cycle.5. Coordinates and confirms direct deposit transmissions to the bank. Resolves payroll system error messages related to on cycle payroll processing.6. Performs payroll gross to net calculations for wages, overtime, manual checks including the impact of taxable benefits, pre and post-tax deductions.7. Demonstrates an understanding of Payroll and Benefits polices. Stays abreast of state and federal labor, tax and garnishment laws.8. Provides exceptional customer service and follows through on all issues and inquiries received in a timely and accurate manner. Addresses basic issues and inquiries.9. Audits, researches and resolves cases assigned from HR Information Systems for all payroll related issues.10. Provides Workday and Kronos timekeeping system and clock troubleshooting support.11. Completes testing for system upgrades and enhancements (UAT).12. Provides backup coverage, in the absence of the payroll manager for payroll processing, payroll journal entries and batch approvals for release to the General Ledger; prepares and submits federal tax payments; extracts hours from multiple time-tracking systems.13. Presents at relevant webinars and training sessions. Ensures adherence to departmental standards and controls. Assist with ad hoc payroll projects14.
