Job Title: HVAC Technician
Job Description
Join our Facilities Management team as an HVAC Mechanic I or II, where you'll maintain and repair HVAC systems, ensuring optimal performance and safety standards. Your work will contribute to the seamless operation of our campus facilities, including laboratories and dining services. Responsibilities
+ Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair HVAC equipment including fan coil units, air handling units, VAV boxes, and all associated components.
+ Repair and replace expansion valves, compressors, motors, and coils.
+ Check HVAC distribution systems for proper velocity, volume, temperature, and pressure.
+ Provide technical assistance with the design of HVAC systems, including installations and modifications to existing systems.
+ Complete preventive maintenance on all HVAC systems and some refrigeration systems.
+ Evaluate HVAC systems for performance and safety standards.
+ Adjust and repair pneumatic, electric, and electronic control components.
+ Supervise and control equipment via building automation systems.
+ Requisition job parts and supplies.
+ Read and interpret blueprints and schematic diagrams.
+ Maintain detailed reports and records.

+ Ability to work independently and make appropriate decisions when additional help is needed.

+ Attention to detail in keeping and maintaining accurate and detailed reports and records.
+ Ability to move and work in confined spaces, up and down ladders, and work from ladders, scaffolding, and bucket truck platforms.
+ Ability to lift 40 pounds from ground to overhead and occasionally work outside during inclement conditions.
+ Ability to pass a physical exam for clearance to wear a respirator when working near hazardous environments.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ High School diploma or GED required.
+ Graduation from a trade school or apprenticeship program as an HVAC or Air Conditioning mechanic required.
+ Minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a journeyman level HVAC mechanic required, with preference for experience in a large institutional setting.
+ EPA CFC Universal certification required.
+ For HVAC II level: Minimum of four (4) years’ experience as a journeyman level HVAC mechanic required, with additional experience in building automation system operations and installations preferred.
+ City of Pittsburgh Stationary Engineers License required.

Work Environment
This full-time position offers a 40-hour workweek with rotating shifts, including 7am-3pm, 3pm-11pm, and 11pm-7am. Flexibility is provided with 10-hour shifts available for 2nd and 3rd shifts. Our work environment supports safety and sustainability, with a focus on providing service excellence in maintaining our campus facilities. Dress code is aligned with safety requirements, and protective gear is provided as necessary.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $78020.80 - $78020.80/yr.
Carnegie Mellon offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, prescription, life insurance, and long-term disability for full-time employees. Health and welfare
