    Job Description

    Join a prestigious NCAA Division I institution as an Athletic Fields and Grounds Maintenance Specialist. You will be responsible for the care, maintenance, and renovation of all intercollegiate athletic fields and grounds on the University's River Campus. This role requires collaboration with various departments to ensure optimal playing conditions and adherence to regulations.

    Responsibilities

    + Develop and implement plans, policies, and procedures for successful maintenance of all athletic fields and grounds on River Campus.

    + Collaborate with the Athletic Field Manager and Facilities Services managers to develop and manage budgets for field maintenance equipment and supplies.

    + Purchase, maintain, and manage inventory of field maintenance equipment and supplies.

    + Manage mowing and irrigation systems on the University River Campus.

    + Monitor and manage riparian areas and assess tree maintenance to prevent negative impacts on construction or field maintenance.

    + Work with varsity coaches to determine optimal playing conditions and execute plans to achieve those conditions.

    + Ensure adherence to relevant regulations, guidelines, and standards for NCAA Division I athletic fields.

    + Collaborate with Recreational Services to determine optimal field conditions for club and intramural practices and competitions.

    + Manage and coordinate work of technical consultants and contractors.

    + Supervise and train seasonal and student employees, including hiring, setting expectations, communication, training, development, performance management, and disciplinary processes.

    Essential Skills

    + Superior attention to detail.

    + Strong customer service orientation.

    + Ability to read, understand, and carry out labels, directions, and work orders.

    + Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English to meet position requirements.

    + Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions, generally in a sequence or with scheduled work activities occurring on a regular basis.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Experience in athletics or a related field is advantageous.

    + Experience with field maintenance and landscaping is beneficial.

    Work Environment

     

    The typical workday is from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, totaling 40 hours a week. During the fall season, work weeks can extend from 40 to 60 hours, with game days requiring around 12-hour shifts from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM. The work environment involves exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, and outside weather conditions.

    This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Portland, Oregon.

     

    Pay and Benefits

     

    The pay range for this position is $20.76 - $20.76/hr.
