MEANINGFUL WORK AND PERSONAL IMPACT:
Artificial Intelligence Governance Specialist is responsible for supporting GDIT’s AI Governance processes. This role combines technical AI research expertise with practical governance oversight to ensure responsible AI deployment across our organization. This position will report directly to the Manager, IT Risk & Compliance, who leads the AI risk assessment process and will work closely with the Artificial Intelligence & Data Management team as well as others in IT Risk & Compliance.
Specific responsibilities include:
Cybersecurity & Risk Assessment
-Assess cybersecurity vulnerabilities in AI systems
-Develop security protocols for AI model training, deployment, and maintenance
-Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to implement AI-specific security measures
-Evaluate third-party AI tools and vendors for security and compliance standards
AI Governance & Committee Participation
-Serve as a technical expert on cross-functional AI governance committees
-Evaluate AI systems and proposals for compliance with internal policies and external regulations
-Develop and refine AI governance frameworks, policies, and best practices
-Collaborate with legal, compliance, and executive teams on AI risk assessments
Research & Analysis
-Conduct research on emerging AI technologies and their potential risks and benefits
-Analyze the implications of new AI developments for organizational governance strategies
-Monitor regulatory landscape changes and assess impact on current AI initiatives
-Prepare technical reports and recommendations for leadership and governance committees
Compliance & Documentation
-Ensure AI projects meet relevant regulatory requirements and emerging AI laws
-Maintain comprehensive documentation of AI system capabilities, limitations, and risk profiles
-Support audit processes and regulatory inquiries related to AI systems
-Develop compliance checklists and assessment tools for AI deployment
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:
Education:
+ BS degree in Computer Science, AI/ML, Data Science, or related technical field, or a combination of education, technical/professional training, certification and/or work experience.
Qualifications:
Technical Background
+ 5+ years of hands-on experience in AI/ML research or applied AI development
+ Strong understanding of machine learning algorithms, deep learning architectures, and AI system design
+ Experience with AI safety concepts including alignment, robustness, and interpretability
Cybersecurity & Risk Management
+ Solid foundation in cybersecurity principles and practices
+ Understanding of AI-specific security threats and mitigation strategies
+ Experience with risk assessment methodologies and frameworks
+ Knowledge of data privacy and protection standards
Governance & Compliance
+ Familiarity with regulatory compliance processes and documentation
+ Understanding of AI ethics principles and responsible AI development practices
+ Experience working with cross-functional teams and committees
+ Knowledge of relevant legal and regulatory frameworks (CMMC, NIST 800-171, NIST AI Risk Management Framework, and General Data Protection Regulation)
Communication & Collaboration
+ Ability to assert own ideas and collaborate with team members and leadership.
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills; must be able to communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
+ Strong project management and organizational skills

+ Experience in the defense contract industry highly preferred.
+ Professional certifications in Cybersecurity or Risk Management are highly preferred.

The likely salary range for this position is $110,925 - $150,075. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
