Open to US Citizens and Forign Nationals
The Lung Epithelial Biology Laboratory at the Penn Lung Biology Institute (LBI), under the direction of Dr. Michael Beers, has an exceptional opportunity available for Postdoctoral Fellows to join a collaborative research project directed at unraveling the mysteries of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and other parenchytmal lung diseases.
The Beers’ Lab has an existing program funded by NIH, the Department of Veterans Affairs, private foundations, and industry to study the molecular mechanisms that regulate tissue injury and repair in focused on discovery, target ID, target validation, and proof or principal studies aimed at uncovering and exploiting novel pathways to treat fibrotic lung diseases. The postdoctoral fellow can focus the project in any of several related areas (epithelial biology, immunological networks, metabolomics, epithelial-mesenchymal crosstalk, and/or transcriptomics/proteomics) using 2 novel published models of lung injury and fibrosis (see https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/29920187; https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/30910861; https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/30721158 . In addition to the unique mouse reagents, the successful candidate will have access to a variety of cutting edge technologies including RNAseq, single cell and ATAC RNAseq, high resolution proteomics, CRISPR mediated screens, lineage tracing, organoid assays, and iPS cells to identify pathways critical for lung tissue repair and regeneration. The ideal candidate will have an M.D., Ph.D. or MD/PhD with a strong background in basic molecular and cell biology skills. Experience utilizing mouse models and primary cell culture systems is required for the success of this position.
