This role is on the Operational Controls Program (OCP). The OCP is a newly created team under the Global Risk & Security division. The program is a multi-year effort that will identify process risks and controls for high and critical processes, plus recommendations to strengthen management of processes and enhance the internal control infrastructure to drive a more effective overall operating environment throughout Vanguard. This program is a multi-year effort and is fast paced with high visibility.The Senior Methodology Advisor role is on the Methodology & Reporting team that is responsible for the internal control framework and methodology, control health reporting, liaising with the risk/controls/compliance teams, target state governance and oversight approach, and target state organizational structure and operating model.
Sr. Methodology Advisor:
+ Builds, evolves, and maintains controls methodology (e.g., defining control and process ownership, describing issue management approach, devising key report guidance). Contributes expertise toward various initiatives to build and implement the target state enterprise controls framework and operating model. Maintains an appropriate level of technical and business knowledge to support program implementation.
+ Develops and maintains broad knowledge and awareness of Financial Services industry forces, competition, and trends to act as a trusted advisor throughout the project lifecycle. Provides insight on best practices and common obstacles based on prior experiences and judgment. Maintains awareness of other methodologies and methodology-related efforts across the firm and participates in discussions on opportunities and impacts.
+ Communicates with stakeholders, leaders, team members, management, and department partners to ensure that requirements and priorities are understood. Develops, implements, and monitors project plans. Contributes expertise to major project deliverables, milestones, and required tasks. Communicates project status and issues regularly to stakeholders, including within the program, sponsors, and senior business leaders.
+ Builds and maintains relationships across program stakeholders and proactively fosters effective communication between internal and external parties. Drives key decisions to ensure alignment with overarching goals across stakeholders. Builds and maintains effective relationships, including with contacts at other firms and consultants. Proactively fosters communication among internal and external stakeholders. Influences key decisions across stakeholder groups.
+ Proactively identifies, manages, and mitigates risks and any related project issues. Communicates solutions on key issues or projects to management and stakeholders to obtain their input and buy-in as appropriate. Maintains an appropriate level of technical and business knowledge to support program implementation.
+ Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate for this role will excel at these capabilities:
+ Leveraging experience with risk and controls, including any industry experience external to Vanguard, to build and maintain a detailed controls methodology while also using conceptual thinking to contribute to the realization of a target state vision. Ability to foresee the effects of recommendations.
+ Ability to independently and proactively drive projects and initiatives forward toward successful outcomes, including presenting (verbally, in writing, and visually) complex topics to a wide variety of stakeholders, including senior leaders, using influence as needed and presenting at the right level of detail for senior audiences. Ability to persevere and be resourceful in the face of obstacles/challenges.
+ Ability to be organized and detailed while simultaneously operating in a fast-moving and sometimes ambiguous program environment. Comfort with flexing to changing/competing priorities and moving forward despite not having all the detail.
+ Skill with partnering and building relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including the OCP Deployment Team and with other methodology (and related) teams to drive effective mutual outcomes.
+ Comfort with surfacing new ideas and perspectives, leveraging curiosity and judgment toward developing new solutions and approaches.
What it takes:
+ Minimum of eight years related work experience. Financial Services and function-specific experience required.
+ Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience required. Graduate degree preferred.
+ Relevant professional risk and control-related certifications/designations preferred.
