Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Launch and Missile Defense Systems offers an excellent opportunity for a Sr Principal Engineer Systems Architect (25-512) to join our team of skilled and diverse professionals. This role, located in Colorado Springs, CO, or Huntsville, AL, is crucial in supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels.
This position does not provide relocation assistance and requires on-site work with no remote options.
Position Overview:
C2BMC is a cutting-edge and dynamic program within the Missile Defense and Space mission areas. It has a long history of providing solutions to the Missile Defense Agency and continues to be contracted to develop new, innovative solutions for these missions. The selected candidate could work across both Missile Defense and Space divisions within C2BMC. The candidate will join an integrated architecture and systems engineering team on a multi-company program, responsible for defining the operational, physical, functional, and technical architecture to realize the vision and capabilities of an evolving C2BMC system. They will be involved in designing missile defense command, control, and battle management systems that utilize existing or Commercial Off-The-Shelf ( **COTS** ) and Government Off-The-Shelf ( **GOTS** ) components, ensuring interoperability.
Salary range in Huntsville: $131,100 - $196,700
Salary range in Colorado Springs: $124,900 - $187,300
Essential Functions:
+ Will analyze high-level needs using a structured, logical approach and develop system architecture solutions and concepts for new and emerging capabilities in collaboration with other architects, including the lead Systems Architect, software architects, network architects, and cyber architects
+ Will communicate and collaborate with software developers, network engineers, cyber engineers, DevSecOps teams, infrastructure teams, test teams, and deployment teams to develop both physical and logical architectures across the system
+ Will collaborate with project leads, product owners, and MDA customers
+ Will present architecture concepts to diverse audiences and serve as the primary contact for System Architecture during development, testing, and deployment efforts
+ Help document or review architecture using **MBSE** tools like **CAMEO**
+ Should stay informed about current and emerging technologies and design methodologies relevant to DoD Command and Control systems and **COTS/FOSS** information technology products
Basic Qualifications:
Please list your current security clearance and IAT or relevant certifications on your resume, if applicable.
+ A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field from an accredited university is preferred, along with 8 years of experience; or a Master’s degree (preferred) in a related field with 6 years of relevant work experience; or a PhD in a related field with 4 years of relevant work experience
+ Applicants must have a current, active in-scope DoD-issued **Secret** security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start
+ Excellent communication skills are crucial, including the ability to clearly present technical concepts to a diverse group of engineers
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Must have Systems Engineering or Architecture experience with Testing as a desired skill on a DoD program
+ Should aspire to become a Systems Architect on a complex Command and Control DoD project
+ Must possess at least two of the following skill sets:
a. Over two years of experience with C2BMC or similar complex DoD Command and Control (C2) systems
b. Experience in designing new system architecture concepts and solutions
c. Work experience in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software, or Networking within a collaborative team working with other systems, software, and specialized engineers to develop solutions for a DoD program
d. Experience as a Technical Lead, Systems Engineering SME, or technical leader in the Missile Defense, Space, or Link 16 domains
+ We are also looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:
a. Experience working on teams that design systems using existing or **COTS/GOTS** components with DoD interoperability in mind
b. Experience collaborating within integrated teams involving systems, software, and specialists to develop solutions
c. Experience in identifying system capabilities, defining and communicating them to developers, engineers, subject matter experts, and users, as well as producing architecture artifacts to document and manage these capabilities
d. Proven ability to develop system engineering and architecture documents such as **Specifications** , **Interface Control Documents** , **Use Cases** , **System Architecture Descriptions** , **Trade Studies** , and more
e. Experience in preparing briefings, reviewing architecture designs and artifacts, and presenting at DoD Customer Design Reviews
f. Experience as a technical leader in DoD systems engineering or development projects
g. Familiar with private cloud solutions and IT technologies such as **VMWare** , **Nutanix** , **RedHat** , and **network solutions**
h. Knowledge of **DoD Cyber requirements** , **RMF** , and associated solutions
i. Experience in software development, especially with Java-based applications
j. Understanding DevSecOps and/or Digital Engineering Transformation ( **DET** ) methodologies and solutions
k. Familiarity with **Agile** development methodologies
l. Knowledge of Model-Based Systems Engineering ( **MBSE)** and **Cameo** tools
m. Experience with requirements management tools like **DOORS**

Additional Northrop Grumman Information:
Primary Level Salary Range: $124,900.00 - $196,700.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
