The Firetug Deckhand and Firefighter Trainee serves as an integral member of the marine firefighting team, supporting emergency response, fire suppression, and rescue operations on the water. This position contributes to maintaining vessel readiness, operational safety, and the protection of life and property across port and coastal areas. Through hands-on training and teamwork, the incumbent plays a key role in advancing the department’s mission to ensure safe, efficient, and effective maritime emergency response.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
This is semi-skilled work involving manual deck and firefighting duties aboard a fireboat. Work involves:
+ Responsibility for the daily task of fastening hawsers and mooring lines to tows or piers, washing decks, cleaning and maintaining equipment, chipping and painting, loading and unloading materials and standing radio/telephone watch.
+ The manning of firehoses and fire monitors in fighting fire aboard vessels and onshore structures, including entry aboard burning vessels and shore structures.
+ When the vessel is in harbor inspection service, greeting and assisting passengers aboard the fireboat, looking after passengers' comfort and answering questions about marine activities in the harbor area.
+ The incumbent serves as a combination deckhand and firefighter.
