Job summary
The Aircraft Quality Assurance and Safety Inspector is responsible for performing comprehensive inspections of aircraft, engines, components, and maintenance procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable FAA and DoD regulations, manufacturer's specifications, and company quality standards. The inspector verifies that all maintenance, repairs, and modifications are properly documented and meet the highest standards of safety and airworthiness before an aircraft is returned to service.
Essential duties and responsibilities
+ Conduct inspections: Perform detailed visual and mechanical inspections on aircraft during all phases of maintenance, repair, and overhaul to identify defects, damage, or non-conformance.
+ Ensure compliance: Verify that all work performed by maintenance technicians adheres to technical data, engineering drawings, repair station manuals, and FAA / DoD regulations.
+ Evaluate airworthiness: Assess the condition and serviceability of aircraft systems, components, and structures to ensure they meet the criteria for airworthiness.
+ Document findings: Accurately document all inspection findings, discrepancies, and corrective actions in detailed reports and official aircraft records.
+ Audit processes: Conduct regular audits and surveillance of maintenance work centers, procedures, equipment, and facilities to enforce quality and safety programs.
+ Review technical data: Interpret and apply complex technical manuals, blueprints, and service bulletins to evaluate aircraft condition and ensure proper repair techniques are used.
+ Manage safety programs: Conduct worksite safety inspections, monitor the Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention program, and report any unsafe practices or conditions.
+ Maintain records: Ensure the calibration of inspection tools and equipment and accurately maintain quality, safety, training, and certification records.
+ Liaise with regulators: Act as a point of contact for external auditors and FAA and DoD inspectors on quality matters and final acceptance inspections.
+ Mentor staff: Provide guidance and on-the-job training to maintenance personnel on quality procedures, safety practices, and inspection techniques.
Required skills and qualifications
+ High school diploma or equivalent is required.
+ Valid FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) license is required.
+ FAA Inspection Authorization (IA) is strongly preferred.
+ Minimum of 10 years of experience as a military or A&P mechanic.
+ Proficiency in reading and interpreting aircraft blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
+ Strong verbal and written communication skills to prepare reports and effectively interface with maintenance, engineering, and regulatory teams.
+ Excellent analytical skills and a keen attention to detail for precise inspections.
+ Ability to use precision measuring tools and diagnostic equipment.
+ Capability to perform tasks requiring physical dexterity, such as climbing and moving heavy objects.
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance may be required.
