    The Regional Administration Division is accepting applications for a Systems Engineer 2 (LRT Network focus).

    How your work would contribute to our organization and the Twin Cities region:

    TheSystems Engineer 2(LRT Network focus)is a mid-level position responsible for all aspects of enterprise SCADA and network systems. This role provides advanced support and maintenance for the Council enterprise network infrastructure with a specialization in wireless, connectivity, or VPN environments. Engineers at this level are capable of owning support for specific network segments (e.g. Wi-Fi, VPN, or facility access control), performing installations, responding to escalated issues, and participating in cross functional infrastructure projects.

     

    The Systems Engineer 2 acts as a primary responder for medium complexity issues, handles preventative maintenance for network environments, and performs change implementations under general supervision. This role represents a natural progression from foundational systems support into more autonomous work, with emerging leadership in technical domains and peer collaboration.

     

    What you would do in this job

     

    + Maintain, reload, and update application software and firmware for Public Address (PA) Systems, Variable Message Signs (VMS), PLC's, and network hardware.

    + Administer IP network addresses, switch ports and switch configurations for field devices.

    + Maintain accurate drawings, configuration management, and software archives for all installed communications systems and system upgrades.

    + Coordinate with customers, designers, suppliers, and vendors of SCADA and communications systems for modifications/upgrades.

    + Perform and support troubleshooting, repair, and return to service of communications systems failures.

    + Set up installation and testing plans for communications systems modifications.

    + Investigate, analyze, and write detailed reports for systems failures.

    + Investigate root cause of system failures and proactively recommend actions for improvement.

    + Administer multiple hardware and software functions that include design, configuration, installation, monitoring, tuning, systems configuration, and release planning and change management.

     

    What education and experience are required for this job (minimum qualifications)

     

    Any of the following combinations in completed education (degree with major coursework in systems administration, systems engineering and design, systems security or a related field) and experience (with SCADA, systems integration/troubleshooting, networking, or related vital safety sensitive systems such as rail signal, aircraft, nuclear energy or petrochemical maintenance).

    Systems Engineer 2:

    + Bachelor's degree with four years of experience.

    + Associate degree with six years of experience.

    + High school diploma/GED with seven years of experience.

    What additional skills and experience would be helpful in this job (desired qualifications):

    + Experience with railway signal and train control systems.

    + Experience with troubleshooting and maintenance of control systems.

    + Knowledge of Cisco networking technologies; routers, switches, DNA, ISE, etc. is beneficial.

    + Prior experience with rail signal and/or traction power systems.

    + Prior experience with Allen Bradley Micrologix PLC's.

    + Knowledge and understanding of overall information security best practices.

    + Ability to troubleshoot communication problems.

    + Ability to read systems and integration drawings.

    + Experience working and collaborating in a diverse, multi-cultural, and inclusive environment.

    What knowledge, skills and abilities you should have within the first six months on the job:

    + Knowledge of SCADA control system function and operation.

    Full Salary Range: $41.34 - $67.08 hourly / $85,987 - $139,526 annually

    You would perform your work in a standard office setting. Work may sometimes require travel between your primary work site and other sites.
