    Minimum Qualifications:

    A high school diploma and two years of post high school experience in wildlife, fisheries, environmental, ecological or related agriculture or construction is required.

     

    Vocational training or an Associate’s degree in wildlife, fisheries, environmental, ecological or related agriculture or construction from an acreddited school or college may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Preference may be given to candidates with the following qualifications:

    Experience operating boats and trailering.

     

    Coursework in fisheries, wildlife, environmental, ecological or related field.

     

    Experience sampling freshwater fish and/or aquatic ecosystems.

    Requirements:

    Employment in this position is contingent upon a satisfactory Level 1 background check at no cost to the candidate.

     

    Not eligible for Telework.

    Position Overview and Responsibilities:

    We are hiring twoseasonal, part-time positionsresponsible for conducting a24-week (November 2025 to May 2026) roving creelon Lochloosa and Newnans lakes in Alachua County. Primary responsibility will beinterviewing anglers about their catch and harvest of freshwater fish species. Additional responsibilities include data entry, collecting fish carcasses from a local fish camp for aging purposes, assisting biologists with fish measurements, otolith preparation and age determinations, and collecting water samples on Lochloosa, Newnans, and Orange lakes. Occasional opportunities to assist biologists with field sampling and laboratory work will also be available.Position is expected to work weekdays and most weekend days. Performs other duties as assigned.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    Knowledge of common freshwater fishes.

     

    Skill in boat/outboard motor operation, trailer towing with a ½ ton truck.

     

    Ability to effectively communicate with the public and supervisors.

     

    Knowledge of sampling techniques for fish, aquatic habitat and/or water quality.

     

    Ability to understand and follow technical instructions relating to sampling and evaluation of fish populations and aquatic habitats.
