    This position provides advanced comprehensive job search preparation and goal setting for program participants to increase their job readiness and reduce risk of re-offense. This position works with participants identified as transitional work release individuals to identify appropriate options for employment and referrals as they transition back to communities. This includes post-release coaching and teaching career theory applications, job search methods, use of technology and effective critical thinking skills strategies as well as providing developmental and career planning services based on risk, need, and responsivity. Finally, the incumbent will be responsible for coordinating these reentry activities with appropriate Department of Corrections (DOC) staff, Work Release Staff, MINNCOR Bridge Staff, Metro Area Halfway House Staff, CareerForce Center partners, education agencies and community-based organizations to assist incarcerated people in obtaining and retaining employment.

     

    This position is eligible to telework up to two (2) days per month. Completion of a telework agreement will be required. Teleworking employees are required to live in Minnesota or a bordering state in a county along the Minnesota state line.

    Minimum Qualifications

    To be qualified for and considered for this position, applicants must meet all of the minimum qualifications listed below. Ensure that your resume contains descriptions of your work experiences sufficient for comparison against the requirements stated below and indicate the beginning and ending month and year for each job held .

    Two (2) years of experience in one of the following areas:

    + Providing employment and training programs and/or vocational counseling; **OR**

    + Delivering transition and/or re-entry programs for incarcerated individuals.

    + _Note: A Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Psychology, Counseling, Human Resources, Sociology, Social Work, Education or a related field may substitute for one (1) year of experience._

    Applicants who meet the experience requirements listed above will be further assessed on the following:

    + Knowledge of corrections, employment placement strategies, and the Minnesota employment climate.

    + Knowledge of principles of program planning and implementation, including evaluation, promotion, and public relations, and skills to apply this knowledge to the development and delivery of broad-based programs for incarcerated populations.

    + Analytical skills sufficient to evaluate program costs, services, operation and impact and recommend policy changes or program modifications.

    + Human relations skills sufficient to train, direct, and motivate workers and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other customers and staff.

    + Written and oral communication skills sufficient to prepare and deliver presentations to various audiences.

    Preferred Qualifications

    The following qualifications are strongly desired of applicants seeking consideration for this position:

    + A Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Psychology, Counseling, Human Resources, Sociology, Social Work, Education or a related field.

    + Knowledge of Minnesota Corrections industry programs.

    + Experience working with current or previously incarcerated individuals.

    + Completion of Core Correctional Practices (CCP) training, Motivational Interviewing (MI) training, Correctional Evidence Based Practices (EBP) training, and/or Reentry Employment Specialist (RES) training.

    + Global Career Development and/or Offender Workforce Development Specialist certification.

    Physical Requirements

    Additional Requirements

    The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. Top candidate(s) must pass a criminal history check which includes successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation.

     

    Employment history/reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records.

     

    New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment.

     

    The Minnesota Department of Corrections (DOC) does not participate in E-Verify. The DOC will not sponsor applicants for work visas, including F-1 STEM OPT extensions. All applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
