Position Summary:
The Department of Political Science at Florida Atlantic University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in American Politics specializing in institutions (Presidency and Congress) beginning August 2026.
Each academic year, candidates should expect to teach at least one section of the introductory Government of the United States course (POS 2041) and/or one section of the Exploring Political Science course (POS 3330). Teaching other undergraduate and graduate courses in American politics and quantitative research methods will be anticipated based on candidate specialization and interests. Applications reflecting breadth of quantitative methodological proficiency, including new techniques and technologies, are preferred.
The hired candidate will have a teaching load of 3/2 with the ability to provide instruction in a variety of modalities, including online, hybrid and in-person. Those willing to lead occasional faculty seminars on new methods are preferred. Candidates should also demonstrate an active research agenda in either methodology or American Politics, which includes potential for outside support through public or private grants. Undergraduate and graduate advising, mentoring, and thesis supervision related to Political Science and Data Science majors are important components of this position.
The Department of Political Science has 17 faculty members committed to excellence in research and teaching. The department has over 400 undergraduate majors and 25 Master’s students. The department also contributes to the College of Arts & Letters’ interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Comparative Studies. Summary of Responsibilities:
+ Responsible to a Chair or other appropriate administrator of a State university.
+ Responsible for teaching, research, service, and related administrative activities.
+ Responsible for academic advising and related activities.

+ May represent the university, college/school, or department/unit on university and/or Statewide committees.

Transcripts must be issued to Florida Atlantic University, not to the individual applicant.
