*Description*
Summary:
Oversees and directs the Quality Assurance program of the Department of Pathology. Monitors the laboratory compliance with regulatory agencies and all departmental Safety issues. Responsibilities include POCT services hospital-wide and Educational programs as directed by the Pathologists.
Responsibilities:
1. Quality assurance program. Criteria A: Oversees and guides the QA program within the Department of Pathology. Quality assurance program. Criteria B: Develops and evaluates monitors to measure departmental performance. Quality assurance program. Criteria C: Annual QA Report Quality assurance program. Criteria D: Analysis of QA data to identify problems, propose solutions and follow through
2. Communications Criteria A: Actively communicates with any applicable operations manager & Technical Specialists & Supervisor concerning QA, QC, technical and nontechnical issues. Communications Criteria B: Develops routine lab satisfaction surveys, monitors results and suggest improvements. Communications Criteria C: Effectively coordinates lab participation in community and hospital sponsored health events when needed in coordination with the LIS department's marketing personnel & ARRL Operations Mgr or Mgr. Client Services. Communications Criteria D: Communicates all new or updated protocols to appropriate staff in a timely manner.
3. Regulatory affairs and safety. Criteria A: Oversee the safety issues of the department and is the liaison for interdepartmental and hospital-wide safety. Regulatory affairs and safety. Criteria B: Monitoring and assuring compliance of regulatory requirements Regulatory affairs and safety. Criteria C: CAP/AABB/FDA/JCAHO/DPH inspection oversight Regulatory affairs and safety. Criteria D: Chairs PCE Subcommittee and maintains minutes, develops and implements routine audits for tracking QA
4. Point-of-care testing. Criteria A: Guides and oversees the POCT Program. Point-of-care testing. Criteria B: Evaluate and propose new tests and instruments Point-of-care testing. Criteria C: Oversees the implementation of new POCT testing, procedures or instrumentation. Point-of-care testing. Criteria D: Performs audits for hospital POCT programs.
5. Other duties and functions Criteria A: Participates as an effective "Shift Officer" within the ARRL and its assigned tasks including weekend supervisory coverage. Other duties and functions Criteria B: Assigns and monitors special projects per request of the Pathologists and/or Administrative Director. Other duties and functions Criteria C: Participates in personal continuing education activities. Other duties and functions Criteria D: Attends departmental and supervisory meetings.
6. Education / Training Criteria A: Performs staff training and completion of training checklist for new hires and existing staff. Education / Training Criteria B: When required creates and conducts training seminars in matters of safety, quality, security and other policy issues. Education / Training Criteria C: Designs competency assessment tools to verify staff competency as it pertains to the ARRL personnel Education / Training Criteria D: In conjunction with the Operations Manager develop cross-training programs tailored to the job descriptions and needs of each staff member.
7. Education Coordinator Criteria A: Efficiently schedules all students from affiliated institutions for rotations throughout the Department of Pathology. Education Coordinator Criteria B: Acts as an effective liaison between affiliated schools and Norwalk Hospital. Education Coordinator Criteria C: Represents the Hospital and/or Department of Pathology at various educational programs both internal and external as assigned.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.
9. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
Education: BACHELOR'S LVL DGRE
Other Information:
Required: BS MT (ASCP) required. Five plus years experience in the role of Safety Officer for a Hospital or health center based clinical laboratory is required and extensive Quality Assurance experience including regulatory affairs is a needed for this highly visible position. Master degree prepared candidate is preferred but not required.
Minimum Experience: five years
Desired: Being able to develop, communicate and monitor QA and Safety Program within the Clinical lab
