Summary This position serves as an advance technician for outpatient care settings such as; primary care, mental health, and specialty clinics. As an ICT Generalist the incumbent may serve in a medical center or community-based outpatient clinic (CBOC) and performs ongoing patient care duties in an outpatient clinical setting. Responsibilities Some of the duties associated with this position include, but are not limited to the following: Providing patient education within scope of care or while providing an intervention (i.e., post-procedural care, splints care and wound care). Assisting with behavioral/psychiatric situations in an outpatient setting. Following facility, national, and local pharmacy guidelines for the administration and disposal of medications. Performing mental health screenings. Interviewing patients to determine complaints and gather histories. Documenting actions, interventions, and procedures in patient medical records. Taking and recording vital signs. Administering 12-lead electrocardiograms (EKGs). Performing assigned point of care testing. Ensuring all instrumentation is set up properly for scheduled procedures (i.e., skin biopsies, pap smears, etc.). Performing phlebotomy to collect blood samples. Collecting and preparing mucous specimens. Ensuring the proper labeling of specimens. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8:00am to 4:30pm Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/17/2025. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR): Specialized Experience: Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. In addition to the above IOR, applicants must also meet the below grade requirements for the GS-07 Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Assisting licensed staff with preparing patients for medical evaluation, setting up equipment, passing instruments and providing treatment. Collecting specimens and preparing them for transfer. Providing patient education within scope of care or while providing an intervention. (Examples: post-procedural care and wound care). Thoroughly and appropriately documenting actions, interventions, and procedures in the medical record. Performing Medication Administration: intramuscular, oral, topical, etc. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed 1 full year of graduate level education that is directly related to the work of the position. OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an equivalent combinations of creditable specialized experience and education as described above to meet the total experience requirements for the position.
