Job Description
This position is located in the Retail Food Section, which is responsible for enforcing state laws, rules and regulations by conducting sanitation inspections of retail food stores. Regulated firms include grocery stores, convenience stores, bakeries, seafood operations, salvage food operations, mobile meat trucks and rolling stores to ensure Good Retail Practices (GRP's) are being followed and the wholesomeness of food is maintained.
Job Summary:
Duties of this position include but are not limited to:
• Build and grow the retail programs special processes consulting program to be an asset to our stakeholders, including but not limited to creating templates, training materials, videos and a resource library for all stakeholders in regard to Special Processes and HACCP plans.
• Assist stakeholders with the development of HACCP plans by providing templates, technical expertise and resources related to the FDA Model Food Code & Rules of the Georgia Department of Agriculture.
• Reviews and approves Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) plans, Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP’s), variance requests, and process flow.
• Provide timely and accurate communication and distribute literature to appropriate stakeholders.
• Assists with training field staff and provides technical assistance for HACCP plans and special processes.
• Perform complex and comprehensive research to assist stakeholders, including but not limited to the program manager, field inspectors, and individual operators.
• Recommend appropriate changes to regulations, policies and procedures related to special processes, the Rules of the Georgia Department of Agriculture, and the FDA Model Food Code.
• Develop and update policies and procedures related to variances, HACCP plans and specialized processes.
• Actively participate in meetings and conferences related to variances, HACCP plans and specialized processes.
• Communicate new and emerging trends to enable the program to make informed decisions regarding industry practices.
• Assist the Program Manager with Retail Building Plan reviews and approvals, including but not limited to reviewing building plans for compliance, working with operators to evaluate opportunities with their floor plans regarding food safety concerns, issuing approval letters, and attaching approval letters and floor plans to establishment homepages.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills: Preference will be given to applicants, who, in addition to meeting the Minimum Qualifications, possess knowledge, skills and abilities in the following areas:
+ Certification as a registered sanitarian or registered environmental health specialist by the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA).
+ Two years of professional experience conducting inspections and investigations for compliance with established state and federal health and food and/or milk sanitation laws, rules and regulations; and/or
+ HACCP Certified and/or 2 years related HACCP experience.
+ FD 207 Plan Review Course Completion Certificate.
+ Working knowledge of Windows computer operating systems and applications.
+ Working knowledge of videography, voice work, and production applications used to produce on-line training materials and videos.
