Position Overview:
The SLAC Nanofabrication Facility (Nano-X), within the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource (SSRL), a directorate of SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, a research facility operated by Stanford University, is seeking a Lead Scientist with expertise in designing, simulating, fabricating, and utilizing novel x-ray optics. An in-depth understanding of synchrotron and free electron laser experimental methods including instrument and optics design, fabrication, experimental planning and data analysis is required. The lead scientist will be responsible for developing, executing, and expanding current and new x-ray scientific programs in x-ray optics, x-ray imaging, and x-ray sciences. Hands-on work in a clean room environment, x-ray experimentation, and simulation/analysis programming skills will be central parts of this job. Work will be performed jointly at Stanford University and SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory.
**Note** : This position is posted at the Lead Staff Scientist level. The Lead Scientist position is a regular continuing position. Applicants will be evaluated on research experience and accomplishments in field of expertise.

**Your specific responsibilities include** :
+ Developing novel optics design, simulation, fabrication, and utilization.
+ Developing, executing, and expanding current and new x-ray scientific programs in x-ray optics, x-ray imaging, and x-ray sciences at both SSRL and LCLS.
+ Hands-on work in a cleanroom and light source instrument environment.
To be successful in this position you will bring:
+ **Ph.D. in physics, engineering, materials sciences, chemistry, or related fields and at least 8 years of experience with X-ray optics design, simulation, fabrication, testing, and application.**
+ **Experience in designing and building x-ray instrumentation, including optical and mechanical components, at both x-ray free electron lasers and synchrotrons.**
+ **Record of initiating and leading scientific research projects in x-ray sciences, x-ray imaging, and/or x-ray optics.**
+ **Research/publication record commensurate with level of work experience.**
+ **Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to convey complex technical concepts.**
+ **Ability to work and communicate effectively with a diverse population.**
+ **Ability to collaborate across organizations and manage/lead cross-functional efforts.**

_The expected pay range for this position is $202,709 -$238,329 per annum. SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory/Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs._
