    Under general supervision of the shop supervisor and guidance from Heavy Equipment Mechanics/Heavy Equipment Field Mechanics (HEM/HEFM), an employee in this class is developing technical skills in the repair and maintenance of MnDOT’s heavy equipment.** **They are responsible for performing basic preventative maintenance, simple repairs, and assisting the HEM/HEFMs with major repairs when needed. These positions are within our “GOO program”, (Grow Our Own).

     

    MnDOT does not sponsor applicants for visas or Optional Practical Exam for STEM Students. Individuals must be legally authorized to work in the US at the start of employment.

    Minimum Qualifications

    + Knowledge of heavy equipment service and repair procedures and techniques sufficient to repair minor equipment failures and assist mechanic in major overhauls.

    + Ability to use heavy equipment machine and hand tools to diagnose minor equipment repair problems.

    + Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions to act upon directions from a maintenance supervisor, foreman, or mechanic.

    + Experience with basic math.

    + Computer experience sufficient to work in specific DOT databases (scheduling systems.)

    + Possession of a valid Class B driver’s license within 6 months of hire.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Class A driver’s license.

    + Graduation of a two-year vocational/technical Heavy Equipment Mechanic Training program.

    + Possession of four current certifications (functionally distinct) in heavy truck mechanics administered by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) or equivalent professional mechanic certification program.
