What We Want
The Social Media Specialist (YouTube Focus) supports Texas A&M University’s Marketing and Communications social media operations with a primary focus on YouTube content strategy, optimization, and channel growth. With a larger content creation team, this position plans, produces, and manages high-impact video and social media content that enhances the university’s reputation, reach, and engagement. This role partners closely with the Director of Social Media, creative teams, and academic and administrative units to ensure that Texas A&M’s video presence reflects institutional priorities and meets the highest standards of quality, accessibility, and brand alignment.

Responsibilities
YouTube Channel Management and Optimization:
+ Manage Texas A&M’s official YouTube presence, overseeing publishing, playlists, metadata, thumbnails, and channel organization.
+ Develop and maintain YouTube content calendars in alignment with broader social campaigns and institutional goals.
+ Implement SEO and metadata strategies to maximize visibility and audience retention.
+ Analyze performance metrics (views, watch time, audience demographics, retention rates) to inform ongoing optimization.
+ Stay current on YouTube trends, algorithm updates, and best practices for higher education and brand storytelling.
Content Production and Creative Collaboration:
+ Plan, script, and coordinate video content in partnership with internal creative and marketing teams.
+ Support production logistics, including scheduling, on-site filming, and post-production coordination.
+ Edit short-form and long-form videos optimized for YouTube and cross-platform use (Instagram and LinkedIn).
+ Ensure all video content aligns with university brand standards, accessibility guidelines, and strategic messaging.
Social Media Execution and Campaign Support:
+ Collaborate with the Social Media team to implement campaigns and initiatives across institutional social platforms.
+ Draft captions, select visuals, and schedule posts using enterprise tools (e.g., Sprout Social).
+ Participate in daily monitoring, engagement, and moderation on social channels.
+ Contribute creative ideas for content that strengthens storytelling and community engagement.
Reporting and Insights:
+ Produce regular reports summarizing video and social media performance metrics.
+ Identify trends, audience insights, and recommendations to inform future creative direction.
+ Present key findings to the Director of Social Media and other stakeholders to support data-driven decisions.
Training, Governance, and Collaboration:
+ Assist with maintaining social media governance and standards across decentralized university accounts.
+ Provide training and support to campus partners on YouTube best practices, analytics interpretation, and brand alignment.
+ Collaborate with communications leads across colleges and divisions to ensure coordinated digital storytelling efforts.
Qualifications
Required Education & Experience:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Digital Media, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
+ Five years of related experience in social media, video production, or digital communications; including:
+ Demonstrated experience managing and optimizing YouTube channels.
+ Experience in video editing, captioning, and publishing workflows.
+ Strong understanding of social media content creation, audience engagement, and platform analytics.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Master’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
+ Strong, demonstrated portfolio of YouTube channel production — including content creation, content strategy, production planning, and execution.
+ Experience in higher education or large-scale brand management.
+ Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop) or comparable software.
+ Familiarity with Sprout Social, Google Analytics, YouTube Studio, and social listening tools.
+ Knowledge of digital accessibility standards (WCAG, ADA compliance).
+ Experience with cross-platform content repurposing and digital storytelling.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
+ Deep knowledge of YouTube strategy, analytics, and audience development.
+ Strong video production, editing, and storytelling skills.
+ Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
+ Data-driven mindset with attention to accuracy and detail.
+ Ability to work collaboratively and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements:
+ Occasional lifting, camera operation, and travel for shoots.
