    What We Want

     

    We are excited to announce this new opportunity to join the Department of Student Activities as our Program Manager for Student Organization Recognition. This position is responsible for the oversight and administration of the student organization recognition process in the Student Organization Leadership and Development (SOLAD) office. SOLAD provides support for Texas A&M’s over-1,300 recognized student organizations through education, consultation, and partnerships with student leaders and advisors.

     

    This position provides oversight and administration to the student organization recognition process, serves as a liaison for off-site campuses, and facilitates key services such as student organization policy development, data collection and assessment, student organization contract review, and student leader and advisor eligibility evaluation. In addition, the position supports administrative review processes in event planning and risk management, supervises a full-time staff member and a graduate assistant, and serves as an advisor for a department-assigned recognized student organization. Overarchingly, the ideal candidate has a passion and drive for building and developing a healthy, thriving student organization community.

     

    What You Need To Know Salary: $65,000/year

     

    Professional Development: May be eligible for up to $3,200.00/year of departmental funding for professional development opportunities and conference attendance.

    Qualifications

    Required Education and Experience:

    + Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    + Five years’ experience in student affairs work or related specialty area.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    + Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

    + Oral and written communication skills.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs or related field from an accredited institution.

    + Three or more years post-graduate experience in higher education, student affairs, or specific area(s) described in this position description.

    + Experience facilitating student organization recognition/registration processes in higher education

    + Formal training in organization advising and risk management

    + Background in advising college student groups

    + Experience supervising graduate and/or full-time staff

    + Knowledge of technological platforms for organization management

    + Familiarity with higher education law and policy

    Responsibilities

    + Program Administration - Organization Recognition: Coordinate the university recognition process for all student organizations. Manage the new student organization (NSO) recognition process, including oversight of NSO informational content, administration of the NSO application and review process, and development of effective processes and resources to support prospective student leaders and advisors. Facilitate the annual recognition process for existing student organizations, including education and enforcement of university recognition requirements, consultation and support for student leaders and advisors navigating the recognition timeline, and oversight of student leader and advisor eligibility review. Work with Technology Services-Student Affairs to develop, test, and troubleshoot online organization management platforms.

    + Program Administration - Organization Management: Facilitate effective student organization operations and risk management through the advising of student leaders and advisors in event planning and execution. Provide consultation to student organizations in the development of policies and procedures to ensure compliance with university rules and guidelines, including operations manuals, safety guidelines, judicial processes, event planning guides, and other key organization documents. Conduct reviews of student organization contracts for courtesy reviews. Review and approve student organization efforts addressing sanction requirements resulting from student organization accountability processes. Support the Adair Student Organization, Advisor, and Program of the Year Awards Program.

    + Program Administration - Special Projects: Manage and oversee special projects and responsibilities, in addition but not limited to the Student Leader Summit. Serve as a liaison for TAMU off-site campuses in support of student organization recognition and management by maintaining communication with campus staff, providing guidance in protocols and processes, and ensuring MOU documents are maintained to outline expectations and services for satellite and branch campuses. Coordinate assessment efforts to evaluate the effectiveness of student organization recognition and management policies and practices, assess student organization retention trends, inform area enhancements in services and programs, and analyze statistics and reports to articulate area performance.

    + Program Support: Support the office in conducting reviews of student organization Event Forms, providing educational and training presentations to students and staff, and other area projects. Field phone calls, walk-ins, and drop-in meetings in support of student organization and student leadership needs.

    + Advising - Recognized Student Organization: Serve as an advisor for a department-assigned recognized student organization. Advise the organization in leadership development, risk management, financial oversight, event programming and logistics, marketing and communications, and other facilitative practices as required by the group or department.

    + Supervision: Facilitate the hiring and training of both full-time staff and graduate assistant positions and provide direct supervision of those positions in the performance of their duties. Support the selection and oversight of Graduate Practicum students for the area.
