Job Details
The Pharmacy Technician assists the pharmacist in performing drug distribution and related technical duties to ensure the safe, efficient, and accurate delivery of pharmaceutical care. The technician performs all duties required for the effective functioning of the pharmacy department under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Prepares labels for parenteral (IV) products prepared in the pharmacy.
+ Prepares and delivers narcotics and controlled substances under the supervision of a pharmacist.
+ Unpacks, verifies, and stores incoming pharmaceutical supplies and materials.
+ Delivers medications and supplies to nursing units and other hospital departments as needed.
+ Fills floor stock requests, medication cassettes, and completes Cardiac Arrest (Code) Carts.
+ Performs regular inventory counts and maintains accurate stock levels.
+ Prepares simple pharmaceutical and disinfectant solutions (e.g., bactericidal solutions, alcohol mixtures, green soap, disinfectants).
+ Maintains accurate records and statistical data as required.
+ Keeps work areas clean, orderly, and compliant with safety and infection control standards.
+ Assists in filling prescriptions and prepacking oral medications under the direction of a pharmacist.
+ Fills patient medication cassettes and maintains documentation as directed.
+ Maintains a running inventory of controlled substances under pharmacist supervision.
+ Performs other related duties as assigned to support the department’s operations.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
+ High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) required.
Licensure/Certification:
+ Current, valid national certification as a Pharmacy Technician (e.g., PTCB or NHA) or licensed Pharmacy Intern.
Experience:
+ Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a hospital pharmacy setting preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
+ Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
+ Knowledge of pharmacy operations, medications, and dosage forms.
+ Ability to follow written and verbal instructions precisely.
+ Excellent organizational and communication skills.
+ Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
+ Basic computer proficiency and familiarity with pharmacy information systems.
Salary Range
USD $29.30 - USD $31.43 /Hr.
