    A day in the life…

     

    Wondering what a day in the life of aPatient Access Managerat The Iowa Clinic might look like?

     

    The Manager of Patient Access is responsible for leading initiatives that enhance the effectiveness and consistency of patient registration across all clinic and facility locations. This leader partners closely with operations, revenue cycle, IT, and clinical teams to streamline workflows, optimize technology, and ensure exceptional patient experience. The role is integral to supporting accurate and timely billing while fostering collaboration and operational excellence across departments.

     

    Job Duties and Responsibilities

     

    + Lead, coach, and develop a team of patient access staff across multiple clinic and facility locations.

    + Foster a culture of service excellence, teamwork, and accountability.

    + Collaborate with operations and clinic leadership to identify and implement best practices for patient registration.

    + Standardize registration workflows, policies, and procedures in partnership with key stakeholders across locations.

    + Monitor performance metrics including registration accuracy, registration times, insurance eligibility verification, and patient satisfaction.

    + Collaborate with revenue cycle, operations, IT, and clinical leaders to ensure seamless processes that support billing requirements.

    + Leverage practice management, EMR, and patient access technologies to improve efficiency and accuracy.

    + Partner with IT and vendors to implement system enhancements and best practices.

    + Identify opportunities for automation, self-service tools, and streamlined workflows.

    + Ensure all registration processes meet compliance standards, payer requirements, and organizational policies.

    + Conduct audits and quality reviews to identify and address process gaps.

    + Develop training programs to maintain staff competency and compliance.

    + Establish and monitor service standards that enhance the patient experience.

    + Resolve escalated patient concerns related to registration, insurance eligibility, or demographic entry.

    + Partner with clinic leadership to support patient satisfaction goals.

    + Performs other tasks as assigned.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

    + Knowledge of insurance requirements, healthcare registration processes, and revenue cycle principles.

    + Experience working with practice management systems (e.g., Athena IDX/GPMS, Epic, Cerner, Altera), EMRs and patient access technologies.

    + Demonstrated success in process improvement, workflow optimization, or automation initiatives in a healthcare setting.

    + Strong leadership and team-building skills with the ability to manage change.

    Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Health Administration, Business or related field required

     

    Work Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in revenue cycle management, healthcare finance, or healthcare analytics, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
