Job Summary
Dominion Energy South Carolina (DESC) is seeking a Power Plant Engineer to support Williams Station in Goose Creek, SC. This Engineer shall work closely with both the plant Operations and Maintenance Departments to address issues with operations, maintenance, processes, and the management of projects associated with Power Plant equipment. This position will also have shared reporting responsibilities for NERC checklists, Environmental Compliance and Generating Availability Data. There is one position available which will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidates eduation, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities.
Williams Station is a coal fired power plant. As part of Dominion Energy South Carolina’s generation fleet, Williams plays a critical role in delivering reliable electricity to the region. The facility is a steam driven turbine / generator unit with advanced control systems, offering engineers hands-on experience, challenges, and opportunities to work on projects that impact reliability and efficiency of the power grid.
Job Activities
+ Coordinate with and provide technical assistance to operations and maintenance departments for corrective and pro-active maintenance tasks, including capital upgrade projects.
+ Assist with troubleshooting issues, recommend solutions, and manage projects for improvements.
+ Monitor and maintain daily operations of pollution control equipment and Air quality equipment.
+ Develop improvements and manage improvement projects associated with Air quality equipment.
+ Work closely with Maintenance to ensure reliability and maintenance of equipment.
+ Shared Monthly reporting duties such as NERC compliance checklists and Power Generation Results.
+ Assist with budgets, cash flow, and projections associated with assigned projects.
+ Manage outside contractors associated with assigned projects and plant outage projects.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
Minimum Requirements (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications):
**Associate Engineer:** Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering and 0 – 2 years of relevant engineering work experience.
**Engineer:** Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering and 2 + years of relevant engineering work experience
**Senior Engineer:** Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering and 5 + years of relevant engineering experience
**Staff Engineer:** Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering and 8 + years of relevant engineering experience
The selected candidate must have the following knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience:
+ Oral and written communication skills, including technical writing
+ Computer skills and application of software programs – Proficiency in MS Excel and Word is required
+ The Plant Engineer shall have the ability to:
+ Interpret codes, regulations and practices
+ Develop effective planning, project and organization skills
+ Manage multiple projects and tasks
+ Work within a team environment
+ Plan, direct, and supervise projects, develop technical scopes of work and specifications
+ Manage contractors in executing work
+ Develop a knowledge of the plant operating systems and processes
+ Work independently and / or in a team environment
+ Engineering experience within a power plant or other industrial plant is preferred but not required
Education Requirements
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited college program is required.
Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description
+ Engineering in Training (EIT / FE) and / or Professional Engineering (PE) licensure is not required to apply for this position
+ Engineer, Senior Engineer, and Staff Engineer require the EIT / FE
+ Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record
Working Conditions
Plant engineers at Williams Station must be prepared to work in environments that are sometimes loud, dirty, and physically demanding. While much of the role involves office-based tasks and technical analysis, power plant engineers regularly enter areas with operating machinery, heavy equipment, and industrial processes. There is exposure to high noise levels, dust, grease, oil, and other elements common to power generation facilities. Work will also require time outdoors, in confined spaces, and exposure to hot and / or cold conditions; adaptability and willingness to work in these environments are essential for success in this role.
