Job Title: Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Clinical ReviewerDepartment: Bariatric Surgery Location: Hybrid, on-site as needed (Rochester General Hospital Medical Office Building Hours Per Week: 40Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm SUMMARY:MBS Clinical Reviewer is required to fulfill case abstraction duties, complete ongoing training and recertification requirements, retrieve and enter long-term follow-up data on all patients, and fulfill requests for outcomes data and reports from the MBS Committee and other appropriate personnel. The MBS Clinical Reviewer must work closely with the center and clinicians to ensure that appropriate short term and long-term data elements are available in the medical records
RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Data entry to the MBSAQIP Registry is time sensitive, and it is the responsibility of the MBS Clinical Reviewer to ensure that procedure and follow-up data are entered into the MBSAQIP Registry within the prescribed data entry timeframes (as defined by MBS Clinical Reviewer training and the MBSAQIP Registry Operations Manual) to optimize data entry.
+ The MBS Clinical Reviewer must work closely with both clinical and administrative staff and must participate in at least two MBS Committee meetings annually, one of which must be the annual comprehensive review meeting.
+ The MBS Clinical Reviewer must be present and actively participate in each MBSAQIP site visit for their current center(s).
+ Identifies surgical patients for inclusion in the Program through the application of Program inclusion/exclusion criteria and protocols.
+ Collects preoperative, operative, and postoperative data components for the Program through the effective utilization of the hospital medical record systems.
+ Attend Morbidity & Mortality conferences to ensure reliable data collection of postoperative occurrences.
+ Demonstrates applicability of the methodology and the reliability of definitions utilized by reviewers within the program through Inter-Rater Reliability (IRR) testing.
+ Identifies streamlining and process improvement opportunities in the data collection process.
+ Demonstrates appropriate utilization of resources necessary to obtain valid, reliable data for entry into the Program.
+ Utilizes software applications for data collection and analysis.
+ Responsible for the accurate and timely entry of data into the program’s database and meets the caseload accrual requirement protocol.
+ Reviews weekly site accrual report on the database and responds to accrual report alerts.Works Effectively with Patients, Families, and Staff
+ Establishes effective working relationships with members of the hospital community, especially staff in the Surgery, Medicine, Nursing, Medical Records and the Information Systems Departments whose support is necessary for the management and success of the Program.
+ Contacts patients and/or families via telephone and/or written communications postoperatively for the purpose of identifying possible occurrences associated with surgical procedures performed at the hospital.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Bachelor’s Degree: RN, Social Work, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy or other related healthcare degree
+ (MBSCR) Metabolic and Bariatric Surgical Case Reviewer through the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP). Certification currently held or obtained within 3 months of hire
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Database data entry and/or management experience preferred.
+ Basic statistical knowledge preferred
+ Quality improvement or patient safety knowledge and experience preferred
+ Computer and Internet experience required - familiarity and comfort with MS Office products is essential for success in this position (Word and Excel- required; PowerPoint and Access- preferred)

$70,000.00 - $95,000.00

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
