    As Microsoft continues to push the boundaries of AI, we are on the lookout for passionate individuals to work with Microsoft Security Copilot (Security Copilot). Security Copilot is a generative AI-powered security solution that helps increase the efficiency and capabilities of defenders to improve security outcomes at machine speed and scale. Security Copilot provides a natural language, assistive copilot experience. Security Copilot helps support security professionals in various end-to-end scenarios such as incident response, threat hunting, intelligence gathering, posture management, and more Security Engineering for Copilot is focused on building and securing systems that accelerate this process by making it easy and safe to incorporate more data and functionality that would otherwise be too scary/risky to do.   We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer to identify areas of risk and opportunity, then design and build solutions in Copilot, making the product and its platform more secure. This can include everything from secure coding standards, to API design, to infrastructure, sandboxing, automated testing/fuzzing, application security and intrusion detection. A key skill is the judgment to make the right risk vs velocity and value decisions. You will possess a methodical approach to problem-solving, proficiency in backend technologies, and the ability to architect solutions that stand the test of time.     Responsibilities

    Build secure, high-performance AI Platform services that power Copilot. Tackle cutting-edge security and privacy challenges at the forefront of applied AI and agentic systems. Collaborate closely with platform, infrastructure, and application engineers, as well as AI researchers, to deliver next-generation AI products and services. Ship well-tested, secure, maintainable, and high-quality code. Navigate roadblocks effectively to get solutions into users’ hands quickly and iteratively.     Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:

    + Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

    + OR equivalent experience.

    + 4+ years of experience designing and deploying scalable services and/or securing applications and infrastructure on public cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP).

    + Proficiency with data storage technologies, including relational databases (RDBMS) and key-value stores.

    + 6+ years of experience building distributed systems at scale, with deep knowledge spanning bare-metal hosts, containers, and networking.

    + 2+ years of experience with Kubernetes.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Hands-on experience with AI platforms, frameworks, and APIs.

    + Familiarity with current research on attacks and defenses for AI-powered systems.

    + Practical experience using machine learning frameworks and deploying/scaling large language models in production environments.

    + Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues, ensuring optimal performance, scalability, and user experience.

    + Commitment to writing clean, maintainable, and well-documented code with a focus on quality, performance, and security.

    + Excellent interpersonal skills and experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and engineers.

    + Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

    + Passion for continuous learning and staying current with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in AI and web development. Demonstrated ability to thrive in fast-paced environments, manage multiple priorities, and adapt to changing requirements and deadlines.

    + Track record of fostering a positive, inclusive team culture that encourages collaboration, knowledge sharing, and growth.

     

    Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
