Microsoft’s Responsible AI (RAI) team in CoreAI is seeking a hands-on, entrepreneurial Principal Technical Program Manager (TPM) with deep expertise in responsible AI risks and mitigation strategies, and a drive to build innovative solutions that enable responsible AI at scale.

     

    Microsoft’s RAI team on CoreAI helps ensure the responsible development and deployment of cutting-edge AI-first products across Microsoft. If you join the RAI team, you will join an organization committed to partnering with stakeholders across policy, research, and engineering to help every product team in Microsoft ship these evolving technologies responsibly.

     

    In this role, you will develop tools, frameworks, and processes and conduct assessments that help teams manage responsible AI risks. You will collaborate across policy, research, engineering, and operations to translate responsible AI principles into practical solutions that integrate efficiently into AI development workflows.

     

    Success in this role requires a proven technical foundation, understanding of generative AI use cases, and fluency in responsible AI measurement and mitigation techniques. You should be comfortable navigating ambiguity, driving clarity across cross-functional teams, and influencing organizational practices. You will leverage your ability to pattern-match, your product-oriented mindset, and your user-centric approach to continuously improve Microsoft’s responsible AI ecosystem and to directly shape the next wave of AI products.

    Responsibilities

    + Through tools, frameworks, and processes, scale your domain expertise in responsible AI risk assessments, mitigations, generative AI, and customer use cases while building trusted relationships with product teams and cross-functional stakeholders.

    + Identify patterns and gaps across use cases, assessments, and requirements, defining new solutions and collaborating with engineering and policy partners to solve problems.

    + Collaborate with responsible AI teams across Microsoft to continuously improve the responsible AI system, ensuring efforts are focused on the highest-impact areas and requirements are implemented efficiently and effectively across diverse teams.

    + Establish clear success criteria for projects and programs, define meaningful metrics, and foster collaboration in complex, cross-functional environments to advance responsible AI risk management and governance across shared roadmaps.

    + Communicate and track progress effectively to ensure transparency, accountability, and sustained momentum.

    Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:

    + Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development

    + OR equivalent experience.

    + 3+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.

    + 1+ years of experience with AI systems

    + Experience in Responsible AI and/or AI safety

    Other Requirements:

    Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

     

    + Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Bachelor's Degree AND 10+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis,OR product development

    + OR equivalent experience

    + 8+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.

    + 1+ year(s) of experience reading and/or writing code (e.g., sample documentation, product demos).

    + Experience with Generative AI, especially in emerging risk areas

    + Experience using AI tools

    + Demonstrated ability to lead complex programs or initiatives without direct authority

     

    Technical Program Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
