The School of Design within the College of Visual and Performing Arts seeks a Part-Time Instructor to teach one section of DES 300 Soft Goods, Advanced Design, a three credit hour course, during the Spring semester, 2026.
This advanced course challenges students to deepen their design practice through the development of complex soft-sewn, non-apparel products intended for production. Emphasis is placed on the refinement of construction techniques, advanced patternmaking, material innovation, and iterative prototyping. Students will deconstruct existing products to reverse-engineer functionality, apply user-centered research to inform design decisions, and critically evaluate interface, ergonomics, and usability. Integration of production methods, scalability, and sustainability considerations are embedded throughout the design process.
