Description of Work Unit
Conceptualize, and develop stategic and long range plans and determine future needs/ strategic plans for Colorado State University’s (CSU’s) built enviroment – buildings’ and space needs, facilities, campuses, land needs, and services.
Position Summary
The University Landscape Architect is the primary reviewer and approver of site-specific design of exterior spaces at Colorado State University. In this role, the Landscape Architect will interface between Facilities Management and the greater campus community on issues related to exterior spaces and infrastructure.
Within Facilities Management the Landscape Architect collaborates with the Outdoor Services ( OSG ) Management team and other sections and units including utilities, project managers, transportation, and other campus planning team members, to coordinate campus site infrastructure and landscape installations to be maintained by the OSG team.
Position also assists with development of the Campus Master Plan.
Required Job Qualifications
+ Licensed as a Landscape Architect in the State of Colorado.
+ In-depth knowledge and five years of and experience in construction methods and materials in exterior applications.
+ Five years experience with site planning elements (eg circulation – multi-modal transportation planning; infrastructure needs – irrigation, utilities, etc.); Land transactions, local Authorities Having Jurisdiction ( AHJ ) submittals, and construction.
Preferred Job Qualifications
+ Ability to prepare conceptual designs and opinions of probable costs for site landscape and exterior infrastructure projects.
+ Experience with technical aspects of design including drawing production and construction management.
+ Experience with Campus Planning and Master planning (programming, visioning, analytics, mapping, graphic representation of concepts and presentations, etc.)

Duty/Responsibility
Leads the site design and implementation of the exterior campus spaces portion of campus planning through the following practices:
+ Production of conceptual plans and preparation of cost opinions and construction documents for site /exterior improvements. Management of the physical Campus Master Plan graphics. Providing continual updates to the document as well as implementation of the Campus Master Plan through physical design and construction.
+ Primary site design administrator and reviewer for all campus site improvements including capital construction projects, circulation plans, site standards, etc. working with project managers as needed to ensure all aspects of exterior site design and construction meets CSU standards and for design integrity and quality. This may include putting together site-related Controlled Maintenance (CM) project/budget requests.
+ Review, management, and approval of the landscape design product of outside consultants working for Colorado State University to ensure their work meets the standards of Facilities Management and the mission of the University.
+ Stormwater management team and utilities management team representative as and when needed. Responsible for ensuring compliance and adherence with the Stormwater Master Plan for individual projects. This may include sustainable initiatives on campus and stormwater detention and treatment projects.
+ Program manager for ongoing Memorial Initiatives including Donor Bricks, Memorial benches, memorial trees. Works directly with the Offices of Donor Relations and Advancement to provide guidance and implement memorials desired by donors to the University.
+ Interface as and when needed between Facilities Management and other University divisions including but not limited to Transporation, Housing and Dining Services, and Athletics on matters related to exterior site improvements. This will also include interfacing and coordinating with CSU STRATA on land and site related projects/transactions.
+ Participate in several University-sanctioned committees, creating content, presenting material, and facilitating monthly meetings as needed. (e.g. Physical Development Committee, Master Plan Committee, Bicycle Advisory Committee, Parking Services Committee, etc.)
+ Facilities Management liaison to the Alternative Transportation Fee Advisory Board. Provide site related expertise to this student fee board when reviewing proposals (review design content, cost opinions, master plan adherence, etc.) for guidance on site improvements they seek to fund and approve.
+ Prepare content and graphics, drawings, standards, etc. as needed in support of Campus planning activities.
+ Support the Campus Planning Section functions.

Support/Assist the Campus Planner as and when needed including (but not limited to) the following:
+ Liaising between (and presenting) to the City of Fort Collins, Larimer County Planning staff, to City Planning & Zoning Board, and preparing Site Plan Advisory Review ( SPAR ) and Location and Extents (L & E) submittals.
+ Coordinate with and represent Facilities Management (FM) and Campus Planning section at The Transfort Leadership Team monthly meeting, STRATA Real Estate – FM coordination meeting, and other site/landscape related committees and activities.

Duty/Responsibility
+ Support the Campus Planning Unit and the University Planner in whatever capacity may be needed by providing planning expertise and support.
+ Provide backup support to the University Planner as and when needed.
+ Other duties could range from providing support and oversight to team members working on projects such as data analytics, mapping , facilitating committee meetings, etc.
+ It could also include working on projects or organizing information to support the next iteration of the CSU Master Plan and sub-area plans, budgeting for future needs, prioritizing needed maintenance projects, etc.
