Position Summary
The Territory Manager is responsible for driving sales growth, developing new business, and maintaining strong customer relationships within a defined geographic territory. This role requires strategic planning, proactive customer engagement, and close collaboration with internal teams including Inside Sales, Branch Management, and Inventory Management.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Relationship Management
+ Build and strengthen customer relationships through in-person visits, phone calls, and digital communication.
+ Position the company competitively through proactive engagement and service excellence.
Market & Competitor Awareness
+ Demonstrate deep understanding of customer needs and local market conditions.
+ Stay informed on market trends, customer needs, and competitor activity.
+ Attend supply chain meetings, regional pricing meetings, MSCI events, and trade shows.
+ Use LinkedIn Sales Navigator to stay current on industry developments.
Lead Generation & Pipeline Development
+ Maintain a minimum of 10 active prospects aligned with new business goals.
+ Use LinkedIn Sales Navigator, trade publications, referrals, and directories to continuously build a robust sales pipeline.
New Account Development & Prospecting
+ Secure 2–5 new accounts monthly through cold calls, warm leads, referrals or other use lead generations noted in lead generation.
+ Track all prospecting activity in CRM and review progress during weekly check-ins and quarterly territory reviews with sales management.
Reporting & Documentation
+ Maintain accurate and timely CRM records of sales activities and customer interactions.
+ Collaborate with IAMs for quote follow-up and feedback, especially on lost opportunities.
+ Communicate major quote opportunities and customer issues to RSM and Branch Manager.
+ Submit reports on business contacts, transactions, and expenses consistently.
+ Treat spending and expenses as if it was your own money.
Territory Planning & Mapping
+ Work to have in-person visits (be in the field) 4 days a week.
+ Strategically plan daily routes using Salesforce Maps and deviation data to identify high-potential zones and former customers for re-engagement.
+ Schedule 2–3 customer appointments per day and build a schedule around those appointments.
+ Maximize productivity by planning ahead and making the most of customer interactions.
+ Aim for 3–5 quality sales calls daily.
Weekly Scheduling
+ Finalize and share weekly calendar with Regional Sales Manager (RSM) and Inside Account Managers (IAMs) by Friday or Monday
+ Use the MOTUS app for route optimization and mileage reimbursement.
+ Treat field days with the same discipline as office-based workdays.
Office & Branch Days
+ Dedicate Fridays or Mondays to administrative tasks, CRM updates, and next week planning.
+ Visit assigned branch at least once per month (ideally bi-monthly) to build relationships and maintain visibility.
Customer Giveaways & Branding
+ Maintain a stock of branded promotional items (e.g., mugs, pens, pads, line cards) for customer engagement.
+ Manage a $1,500 annual budget for giveaways, including holiday visits.
Qualifications
+ Undergraduate degree, preferably in business administration or related area and/or 5 years metals industry sales experience.
+ Proven experience in field sales, territory management, or a related role.
+ Strong planning, organizational, and time management skills.
+ Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
+ Proficiency with CRM systems and mapping tools (e.g., Salesforce Maps).
+ Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams.
Work Environment
+ Field-based role with regular travel within assigned territory.
+ Office and branch visits required for administrative tasks and team collaboration.
