Position Summary:
Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Alumni Engagement and Giving and exercising a high degree of creativity, independence, and leadership, the Director, Alumni Engagement will lead engagement efforts for NJIT’s alumni community. Managing three direct reports, they will lead and oversee programs, events, and services that meaningfully engage alumni, volunteers, and students with one another and with the university.
Essential Functions:
-Work closely and collaboratively with the AVP, Alumni Engagement and Giving and the Director of Annual Giving, to implement, and maintain programs, events, and services for alumni, students, and friends that increase their engagement, both with one another and with the university, and generate positive, sustained relationships that lead to increased philanthropic investments in NJIT.
-Lead and implement alumni engagement strategy, utilizing creativity, industry best practices, and data analytics.
-Provide leadership, management, and strategic guidance to the alumni engagement team.
-Lead strategy for alumni engagement events, particularly signature events like Homecoming and Golden Highlander/50th Reunion.
-Cultivate and manage a portfolio of 50 alumni prospects, strengthening their engagement and philanthropic investment in the institution.
-Expand alumni career services benefits and industry networking opportunities in collaboration with campus partners.
-Partner with alumni volunteers to direct strategy and implement programs for affinity groups
-Use data, including NJIT's alumni engagement score, to assess programs and develop strategy.
-Assume responsibility for meeting goals, objectives, and other key performance indicators for alumni engagement.
-Foster a culture of engagement and pride among students, alumni, volunteers, and other external constituents.
-Guide and mentor staff members on best-practice activities, strategies, programs, and priorities related to alumni engagement; build trust-based, positive, and authentic working relationships with them; follow university and industry best practices for performance management, and model desired behaviors.
-Collaborate with university partners, including academic colleges, Career Development Services, the Office of Student Leadership and Involvement, and Athletics, to support alumni-student connections and advance institutional priorities.
-Collaborate closely with Executive Directors of Development to support donor pipeline development through strategic engagement and stewardship opportunities.
-Manage and responsibly steward the Alumni Engagement budget.
-Other duties as assigned.
Prerequisite Qualifications:
-A bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
-A minimum of 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience in alumni relations and/or advancement.
-Experience with CRM platforms, databases, and analytics.
-Demonstrated ability to relate effectively to alumni, volunteers, students, and other external constituents as well as internal partners.
-Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and evaluate comprehensive plans for alumni relations, establishing goals and objectives that translate into annual operating plans.
-Exceptional writing, speaking, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
-Candidates must also demonstrate an ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with colleagues; facilitate multiple projects, make decisions, and meet deadlines; manage and motivate volunteers effectively and efficiently; and identify problems and develop creative, timely, and efficient solutions.
-Position involves travel as well as the ability to work evenings and weekends.
-At the university’s discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

Salary Information:
In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the annual salary range for this position is $95,000-$110,000 (USD). NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses or other items.
