Certified Clinical Medical Assistants support medical providers with patient care in a practice setting. They assist the practice in clinical and administrative functions necessary to provide quality patient care. Some of the duties include but are not limited to assisting providers with procedures, conducting follow up with patients on lab and test results, rooming patients, preloading and confirming office appointments. They may work in primary care and specialty care practices!
About the Program:
- Students selected will need to be available to start on November 24, 2025, in orientation and department training.
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant Training will start the week of December 1, 2025, and will be in session for approximately 10 weeks.
- Students will attend class and labs for 24 hours per week. Class and labs will be taught locally at Northern Lecture Mayo Hospital in Dover Foxcroft on Monday's, Tuesday's and Friday's from 8:00 AM -4:30 PM.
- Students will work 16 hours per week as a Medical Assistant (non-certified) in Northern Light Sebasticook Valley Hospital practice around their required education time. This time is considered paid work time.
- This program requires externship in one or more Northern Light Sebasticook Valley Hospital practice(s). The externship will start later in the program and may replace some of the employee's worktime.

Program Requirements:
- 18 years of age or older high school graduate or equivalent from a state-sanction program
- Access to a computer/tablet and internet.
- Maine resident.
- Willing to work as a Medical Assistant (non-certified) while in training.
- Willing to attend class and labs at Northern Light Mayo Hospital (Dover Foxcroft) while in training.
- Willing to commit and work as a full-time certified clinical medical assistant for Northern Light SVH for a minimum of two years following training.
- If an internal employee, you must be in good standing and have been in your position for a minimum of six months (unless approved otherwise).
Working Position - Medical Assistant - Job Summary:
The non-certified medical assistant provides direct and in-direct patient care under clinical direction of the provider they are working with and the office leadership within a medical office setting. Performs duties such as routine intake of patients which includes taking vital signs and assuring patients understand their plan of care and instructions.
Responsibilities
Clinical
+ Properly collect and understand the required vital signs, screening questions.
+ Properly gather a history and reason for visit.
+ Ensure a complete medication reconciliation is completed and ready for the provider to complete at each visit.
Administrative Assisting
+ Document all aspects of patient care in a timely manner on both paper medical records and the electronic medical record.
Communication & Customer Service
+ Communicates and interacts with patients and families, providers, peers and other health care members to maximize successful outcomes and maximize function of the unit.
Medical Law & Ethics
+ Maintains a safe environment complying with Northern Light Health policies and procedures; reports and directly addresses environmental hazards and violations of patient safety policy and/or protocol when involved or observed.
Patient Care Coordination & Education
+ Facilitate patient compliance (e.g. continuity of care, follow up, medication compliance) to optimize health outcomes.
Other
+ May perform other duties upon request and with proper training and competency documented.
Other Information
+ Medical Assistants (Non-Certified) will be given the opportunity to complete a Northern Light Health Medical Assistant Program or Self-Study option and once certified moved into a Certified Medical Assistant I.
