    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Business Systems Analyst, Underwriting will serve as the subject matter expert for Kemper Life’s Sapiens Underwriting Pro (UW Pro) system, ensuring continual improvement and modernization of underwriting rules. This role is central to supporting Kemper’s goal of achieving 90% Straight Through Processing while maintaining appropriate risk tolerances.

     

    This role will be responsible for translating business needs into system logic, configuring and testing UW Pro rules, and supporting underwriters and IT partners with troubleshooting and process enhancements. The role requires strong logical reasoning, attention to detail, and the ability to align system rules with underwriting principles and business objectives.

    Position Responsibilities

    + **Solution Development** – Translate underwriting and business rules into logic and requirements for UW Pro, ensuring alignment with system functionality and overall process flow.

    + **System Configuration** – Implement solutions through configuration of UW Pro, including development of new rules, updates to existing rules, testing, documentation, and promotion of changes.

    + **Underwriting Support** – Troubleshoot and analyze issues raised by underwriters, identifying whether they stem from user error, defects, or unexpected results.

    + **IT/QA Support** – Partner with IT teams to investigate issues, coordinate testing, and define test cases for initiatives involving Sapiens systems.

    + **Audit & Compliance Support** – Manage SOX, UAR, and other system access requests; support internal and external audit inquiries.

    + **UAT Testing** – Serve as the primary tester for UW Pro during User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for system-related projects.

    + **Other Duties** – Perform additional responsibilities as needed to support the underwriting function.

    Position Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s degree in business, information systems, insurance/finance, or related field (or equivalent work experience).

    + 3+ years of experience in business analysis, system configuration, or related insurance/underwriting support role.

    + Familiarity with life insurance underwriting concepts, or demonstrated ability to learn and apply them quickly.

    + Experience working with business rules engines, underwriting workbenches, or similar decisioning tools (experience with Sapiens UW Pro preferred).

    + Strong logical reasoning and process flow understanding.

    + Ability to translate business needs into technical/system requirements.

    + Strong prioritization skills, with awareness of business impact.

    + Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

    + Analytical mindset with proven problem-solving ability.

    + Effective written communication skills for documentation and business requirements.

    + Strong verbal communication skills for collaboration with internal teams and external vendor partners.

    + The range for this position is $68,000 to $113,400. When determining candidate offers, we consider experience, skills, education, certifications, and geographic location among other factors. This job is also eligible for our Kemper benefits package (Medical, Dental, Vision, PTO, 401k, etc.)

    + This is a remote position that can be worked from any US-based home.
