Job Description Summary
We are seeking a skilled CMM Programmer to join our Development and Advanced Quality teams. The ideal candidate will be responsible for programming, operating, and maintaining Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) to ensure the precision and quality of manufactured aerospace components. This role requires expertise in interpreting engineering technical drawings, developing inspection programs, and collaborating with engineering and production teams to meet quality standards.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
+ Develop and validate Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) programs and calibrations used to support the manufacturing efforts for the Development and Advanced Quality teams at GE Aerospace in Wilmington, NC.
+ Read and interpret drawings and other quality control requirements using Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and sound metrology principals.
+ Develop and execute CMM programs using software such as PC-DMIS for Hexagon CMMs.
+ Operate CMM equipment to perform dimensional inspections of parts and assemblies.
+ Ensure programs are optimized for efficiency and accuracy.
+ Conduct first article, in-process, and final inspections to verify compliance with engineering specifications.
+ Interpret and analyze inspection results, identifying and addressing discrepancies.
+ Maintain detailed inspection records and reports.
+ Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to resolve technical issues.
+ Provide feedback on design and manufacturing processes to improve quality and reduce defects.
+ Support root cause analysis and corrective actions for non-conforming parts.
+ Perform routine maintenance and calibration of CMM equipment to ensure optimal performance.
+ Troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues as needed.
+ Conduct training CMM inspection and programming as needed
+ Act as plant expert and interface regarding CMM measurements
+ Ensure a means of collecting and distributing compiled information in order to improve quality
+ Ensure safe practices are used in compliance with all governmental regulations.
Required Qualifications
+ Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college (Or a high school diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of experience in engineering or quality)
+ Minimum of 3 years PCDMIS CMM programming experience and operation (including experience with editing and controlling CMM program revisions) for aerospace parts and assemblies
+ Experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and interpreting engineering drawings.
Desired Characteristics
+ PCDMIS, PolyWorks, and/or Modus CMM programming language experience.
+ CMM programming certifications are a plus.
+ Familiarity with aerospace or automotive industry standards.
+ Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
+ Experience with other metrology tools such as optical comparators, micrometers, and calipers.
+ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
+ Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
+ Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
+ Ability to work in cross- functional teams in a matrix environment with all levels of personnel
+ Strong working knowledge of Manufacturing and Quality operations
+ Ability to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines
