Responsibilities*
+ Responsible for the evaluation and management of children with otolaryngology diagnoses on busy inpatient service.
+ Complete history and physical examination, order diagnostic studies, and obtain surgical consents.
+ Use physical examination, and diagnostic information to formulate differential diagnoses and develop appropriate care plans.
+ Collaborates with primary and consulting services. Provides comprehensive handoff to team members.
+ Provide timely documentation of all patient care encounters. Utilize medical record to access information, record evaluations and progress notes, review lab results and studies, order appropriate medications and tests, process orders, and process patient discharges.
+ Demonstrate high level of critical thinking and medical knowledge by using current medical information and scientific evidence for patient care.
+ Participate in educational meetings within the program, department, and institution.
+ Establish and maintain a collaborative team approach with all members of the team.
+ Demonstrate flexibility to meet demands of patients and families as well as division and department.
+ Respond to patient and family preferences and needs.
+ Provide excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.
+ Perform common otolaryngology procedures such as frenotomy, flexible laryngoscopy, tracheobronchoscopy, and tracheostomy tube changes
+ Admit patients to the service as first contact. Work with minimal supervision and as part of collaborative team including physicians and residents.
+ Perform postoperative checks
+ Participate in inpatient consultations
+ Cross training for tracheostomy team and provide support
Required Qualifications*
NP
+ Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State of Michigan.
+ Current specialty certification to practice as a Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, or Family Nurse Practitioner.
+ If Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner of Family Nurse Practitioner, must have 2 years of inpatient pediatric clinical experience.
+ Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
+ Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) or American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
+ Current DEA registration required
+ AHA approved BLS certification and PALS- can be obtained post hire as part of credentialing
+ 1 year of pediatric inpatient experience as an APP within the last 5 years
PA
+ Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP.
+ Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
+ Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.
+ State of Michigan Controlled Substance License required
+ Current DEA registration required
+ AHA approved BLS certification and PALS- can be obtained post hire as part of credentialing
+ 1 year of pediatric inpatient experience as an APP within the last 5 years
NOTE:
* Employment is contingent upon successful completion of the credentialing and privileging process.
* To be considered for this position the applicant must have met or will have met all the required qualifications prior to the start date of employment.

Desired Qualifications*
+ APP experience with pediatric otolaryngology patient population.
+ Experience with a pediatric surgical patient population within the last four years.
+ Ability to prioritize assignments and manage a busy work environment.
+ Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills organization and problem-solving skills.
+ Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a collaborative team
+ Excellent procedural skills
Work Schedule
Hours/Week: 40
Shift/Hours/Days: Shift length and hours may vary based on department needs

Union Affiliation
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Physician Assistants of Michigan Medicine, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
