    As part of the largest college at the University of Michigan, LSA Finance employs more than 90 staff who provide financial, procurement, and research administration support to over 100 units. We are currently seeking well-qualified applicants for a Budget Analyst Lead role to track, maintain and provide reporting on a wide variety of commitments. The budget analyst is a key member of the LSA Budget team that partners with other teams within the LSA Dean's Office to provide shared financial management support. This role requires excellent interpersonal skills to partner with colleagues at all levels and within multiple University offices.

    Responsibilities*

    + Serve as a member of the budget team in the LSA Dean's Office.

    + Working with the Director and other senior staff, leads the creation and preparation of the college's annual budget. Analyzes and reports on the college's financial performance. Identifies creative solutions for funding ongoing needs and new initiatives.

    + Provide coordination for enrollment management and tuition attribution forecast based on historical data trends. Utilize tuition attribution data for various college-level commitments and costing analyses.

    + Responsible for oversight and reporting of the college's central budgetary departments, along with commitment management and tracking.

    + Assists with assembling data from the college budget request process, thoroughly reviews data and recommendations to college leadership.

    + Manage college-level gift fund balance review and utilization.

    + Leads fiscal year-end financial processes and analyses.

    + Provide input, guidance, and assistance related to the authorized faculty position management process, tracking and maintenance of faculty appointments, faculty merit process, and graduate student allocation budget.

    + Assist the Director in determining and implementing workflow and process improvements.

    + Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications*

    + Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a business-related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    + A minimum of 8 to 10 years of progressively responsible experience in finance and budgeting is required, demonstrating success in managing the overall budgeting process for a complex organization.

    + Extensive knowledge and experience using spreadsheets and complex databases.

    + Demonstrated skill in creating data queries and reports.

    + Proficiency with University administrative and business tools such as Business Objects, UM Metrics, MReports, and other MPathways systems; knowledge of UM organizational structure.

    + Highly proactive, a high degree of problem-solving skills, a high sense of ownership and accountability for workload, and flexibility during times of change.

    + Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively with a high degree of accuracy while working in an environment of fluctuating priorities and interruptions.

    + Extremely detail-oriented with the ability to recognize and investigate data anomalies.

    + Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a team. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build successful relationships with faculty and staff at all levels. Excellent communication skills.

    Additional Information

     

    The target salary range for this position is $100,000-$135,000. A higher salary may be possible for well-qualified candidates.
