    Job Summary

    The University of Utah School of Dentistry is seeking to immediately fill an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery ( OMFS ) Assistant position. The OMFS service line manages a high-acuity patient population with complex medical and surgical needs. The OMFS Assistant is a critical role in ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant patient care within a hospital-integrated environment.

     

    This position will work with oral maxillofacial surgeons to ensure high-quality patient care at our Wakara Way and University Hospital clinics. This is a part-time position (3 days per week), with strong potential for growth.

    Responsibilities

    + Ensure patient medical history documentation is complete and regularly updated. Ensure oral surgeons, anesthesia coordinators, and other pertinent parties are informed of patient information prior to surgery or treatment.

    + Assist oral surgeons with in-clinic procedures by preparing, identifying, and/or providing appropriate instruments.

    + Assist with post-operative wound and follow-up care.

    + Coordinate lab testing and follow-up care instructions.

    + Maintain equipment and supplies.

    + Act to ensure proper infection control, clinic policies, and processes are followed.

    + Obtain and upload CBCT images for interpretation.

    + Perform routine cleaning, stocking, and equipment maintenance, including but not limited to changing traps, maintaining water unit levels, cleaning chair bases, and stocking supplies.

    + Take and record vitals.

    + Document treatment notes in the electronic health record ( EPIC ).

    Minimum Qualifications

    + Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire

    + Verifiable completion of one (1) of the following:

    1. State approved EMT course.

    2. One (1) year of Medical Assistant experience in an ambulatory care clinic or other healthcare setting.

    3. Medical Assisting education program.

    4. University Hospital Medical Assistant certification program.

     

    Preferences

     

    Medical knowledge with experience in clinical care in a hospital setting.
