Job Description
Position Purpose
The Student Success Specialist is responsible for promoting a positive and successful learning experience for students to increase retention, success, and completion of first time in college students. This position serves as a wrap around support, supporting the transition from high school through the first year of college. Provide guidance and assistance with course placement, course registration, academic planning, college processes, and academic questions, as well as resources and referrals to promote academic success. Create and present specialized events and workshops for first time in college students to create a sense of belonging and build academic skills. This position is grant funded to December 2026. The position is contingent upon continuation of funding from the grantor, as well as satisfactory job performance.
Position Responsibilities
+ Provide proactive and intentional wrap-around support to increase first time in college student retention. Provide students with college placement, orientation, FAFSA, and admissions process application and information.
+ Provide case management and first-year academic advising for assigned students.
+ Create and implement specialized programming and events to foster a sense of belonging and assist students with academic skill building.
Salary Range:
$23.98 - $34.69/hour
_(DOQ – Salary Placement will be done at time of hire.)_
Minimum Qualifications
+ 1 year of experience related to higher education
+ Strong verbal and communication skills, as well as public presentation skills.
+ Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
+ Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of college student development and various learning styles.
+ Personal computing/technology skills; working knowledge of Microsoft Office software; experience with and comfort learning and utilizing multiple types of technology.
Preferred Qualification
+ Associate degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education or related field.
+ Demonstrated commitment to student success and retention.
+ Ability to learn extensive college program, policy, and procedure information and explain to others.
+ Experience working with students to promote student success or navigate educational systems.
+ Experience working collaboratively as part of a team.
+ Experience in academic advising.
+ Experience in a community college setting.
+ Experience with MN State advising-related software such as ISRS, uAchieve and Starfish.
