Job Summary:
+ _Corporate level position supporting NRG’s fleet of steam turbines across the country. Steam Turbine Engineer/Specialist will provide on-site support for field inspections, condition assessments and run, repair, replace recommendations. Coordinate repair activities with various repair shops and suppliers. Assist in developing and/or reviewing quality plans in addition to monitoring and auditing supplier quality. Emphasis on communication amongst peers, site management, and leadership team. Review of equipment histories, applicable manufacturers bulletins, and operational history and requirements to develop long range plans for steam turbines. Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
+ _Supports and emphasizes the importance of safety and environmental programs_
+ _Evaluates component condition and repair options and performs risk assessment for maintenance activities_
+ _Participates and/or leads teams that focus on specific problem areas or needs for generating units_
+ _Communicates with customers regarding condition of equipment and repair work scope_
+ _Inspects completed work or work in progress to assure job quality_
+ _Performs field inspections and takes field measurements_
+ _Coordinates activities with Vendors/Contractors, other divisions and departments_
+ _Recognizes problems and is proactive in helping to resolve them_
+ _Performs root cause analysis of system and equipment problems_
+ _Develops quality work plans when required_
+ _Performs engineering calculations in area of responsibility_
+ _Assists in outage planning and economic evaluation of turbine projects as needed_
+ _May be required to manage projects in area of expertise_
+ _Ensures company resources are used in a cost effective manner_
+ _Prepares written reports in assigned area of responsibility_
+ _Performs technical duties in area of responsibility_
+ _Develops and maintains technical specifications for purchase of replacement parts, vendor repairs and maintenance standards_
+ _Identifies and implements new or existing repair technology in area of responsibility_
+ _Track AIB/TIL’s for steam/generators and assess implementation and compliance strategy_
+ _Qualifies vendors and suppliers for parts and services in area of responsibility_
Working Conditions:
+ _Normal office environment and/or outside work environment (including working at heights, high/low ambient temperatures and high humidity areas at generating plants)_
+ _Requires travel to and from NRG plants or vendor facilities across the country (approx. 20% of the time)_
+ _Requires operation of a motor vehicle and a valid drivers license_
+ _Requires personal protective safety equipment while in the plants_
+ _Overtime or non-standard hours may be required_
+ _Requires operating a personal computer_
Minimum Requirements:
+ _Minimum of Baccalaureate Degree in appropriate Engineering discipline from an accredited college or university and 5 years of experience in steam or gas turbine equipment maintenance, operations, and troubleshooting._
+ _Or, a minimum of 10 years of experience in steam or gas turbine equipment maintenance/repair, operations, and troubleshooting._
+ _All positions at NRG will require at least a high school diploma or GED equivalent_
+ _Fundamental knowledge of vibration analysis and balancing of large rotating equipment_
+ _Fundamental knowledge of working materials and metallurgy of steam turbines and components_
+ _Fundamental knowledge of control systems for large steam turbines_
+ _Fundamental knowledge of GE, Siemens, Westinghouse Steam turbines_
Preferred Qualifications:
+ _An Engineering degree and minimum 15 years of experience in steam or gas turbine engineering, maintenance, operations, and troubleshooting_
+ _Minimum of 20 years of experience in maintenance, operations, and troubleshooting of steam or gas turbines_
+ _Training and experience in vibration analysis and balancing of large rotating equipment_
+ _Knowledge of working materials and metallurgy of steam turbines and components_
+ _Knowledge of mechanical hydraulic control systems for large steam turbines_
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
+ _Effective communication skills with craft personnel, site leadership, as well as management._
+ _Ability to take a leadership role meetings and communications around steam turbine issues._
+ _Project management skills_
+ _Knowledge of power plant systems_
+ _Knowledge of turbine repair processes_
+ _Ability to prepare written reports and presentations to management_
Physical Requirements:
+ _Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering plant equipment access, inspect or collect data on plant equipment._
